Logosol Log Holder

Anyone used one of these log-holders for bucking ?

Or something like it ?

I bought it last year.
I have a smoker, & was going to use it with very small cherry trees to make LOTS of 1-3” discs; instead of using chips or chunks.

Today I decided to try it for its original purpose; bucking small branch stems.
It is very quickly adjustable to hold 1-8” logs. Well built; sturdy.
It worked better than I expected. Much safer, quicker & efficient than what I was doing with the small branches.
(This may be very petty for professionals w/ grapple trucks & chippers.)

Small branches:
I’m a home owner.
Small branches don’t have to be split.
They make a good second addition for kindling after the original fire start.

Seems silly to me weird that small it's easier just to cut half way through flip it and finish the cut. Having to put it on a stand to cut just seems like more work.

I am glad you like it but for me nothing under 10”s diameter comes home. As far as smoking goes I like the pomp and circumstance of splitting down bigger chunks into smaller splits.

I like burning like 8" diameter stuff, no splitting required and it lasts longer that a split piece the same size.

That's why I hadn't tried it before.
With wood that small, I worry about "grounding" the chain.
Also, bending over for 2 cuts / piece was getting "old" for this old back.
I'm not bringing this small wood home, it's already here. If I don't burn it I have to drag it into the woods.
Finally, setting a 10-12 ft piece in the holder is 1 bend; cutting ALL the 18" long pieces is done in 30 secs.

I also burn big wood. Lately I've been splitting: 3" thk X 18" L X ~12".

I knew this post would get some "chuckles". Not as negative as I expected - - - - Thanks !

Being very candid, this device does one other thing for me . . . . . . . .
It keeps me from "one handed sawing" to buck, while holding small wood.
I have never said that I was the brightest bulb on the Xmas tree ! ;)

I have seen that thing advertised; it looks rather handy, not something that I’m likely to use, but for what you do, it looks like it’s probably about perfect. If you like it, by all means, use it, and ignore the naysayers!

For cutting small diameter wood I sometimes use a sawbuck. Keeps the saws out of the dirt and helps control the pieces being cut. Nice to be able to load bundles of limbs onto it as well. I have mine marked with measurements as well.

I find that often limb wood from certain species has a greater BTU value vs trunk wood. Also, where I live we have a lot of native dogwood trees that make great firewood. Insanely hot burning!

I have a couple sawbucks made w/ treated 4X4's out in the woods.
Thanks.

Probably not. The clamp is only 24" high. (.6 meters)
A "Jet Sled" would easily fit. However, it will collect most of the sawdust.

Speaking of Jet Sleds try checking out a contractor supply house in their masonry section and get a poly mortar box. And by contractor supply house I don’t mean Home Depot or Lowes. I am talking Fabco Rents or Lincoln Contractor Supply or nearly any cement plant has them that sells tools and supplies. The one I have is 6’x3’x10” and is 1/4” thick.
