Log rolling advise

I'm thinking of purchasing some sort of Peavey or Cant, but I don't know what I should buy. Anyone have any advise for me.

I want to be able to roll an 18" diameter, say, 10 ft. log over onto it's other side to finish my cuts.

I'd recommend the Peavey with the long handle in case you run into bigger logs over time. They're handy for popping base cuts off the stump too!

Thanks everyone. I called Logrite yesterday and talked to them at length about what I usually need out here. They recommended the 42" cant. So, I've got one on order at Bailey's. I'm thinking about purchasing the log stand for it.

The Stihl dealer in my town, has charged me shipping on special orders like this and I've also noticed that most of the rebranded Stihl handtools (like ARS pole saws, hand saws, and pruners) are about 20 bucks more than the original manufacturer brand models. And none of my local dealers had a cant or peavey in stock... So, I went with the original Logrite at Bailey's.

Rock on!

The 42" cant will be good for rolling logs but you can't beat that 60 incher for rolling hangers out of the tops of other trees.
I've used them and have one on the way.

It's only on stuff that he doesn't carry in-stock, normally. And the shipping is pretty expensive. I think I paid about 8-10 bucks shipping on a little ARS/Stihl replacement blade for my folding handsaw. If it's some he carries, but he's just out of, then he doesn't charge for shipping.

Bailey's has pretty fair prices on the things that I buy there. And they ship pretty fast. They have a warehouse that's only a couple hours drive from my home, so it's usually a 1 or 2 day deal for me to get my stuff.

I give my Stihl dealers a lot of business too... I think I've got 4 of them within a 20 mile radius of here...

That sounds like another good use for it. I have the ARS extending polesaw (the largest one), which I've used many times for freeing up snags in the treetops. It works good as long as you pull the extensions all the way out to the snaps; then you can put quite a bit of force on it.

One fellow suggested that he uses his 60" for poping stump cuts off. It's handy having a good strong bar around...

They told me at Logrite, that the larger cants have a different hook that isn't as good for smaller logs. I guess it's made for bigger wood?

I don't get much wood over 25 inches out here, although I do have a few oaks that are larger than that; but hopefully, I won't ever need to cut them up - they're keepers!

damn shame that they are charging shipping! its all worked out with Stihl. I have neve charged shippping to my shop, only if I am shipping an item to a customer. bad business IMO.

good luck, you'll love it when you get it!
