Log Carts

I am Currently in the market for a log cart. i know that sherrill sells them but i honestly hate that log cart. We have one at work and its just too bulky and doesnt move around nearly as well as our converted B&B ball cart.

any ideas? i am not affraid to modify, just not looking to completely rebuild. Any advice is apprecaited

Also i am in the market for a 12x6 dump trailer gvw12,000 with ramps but thats for another thread (unless you have one to sell then pm me)

Also, if you have a mini skid steer, why dont you go ahead and just shut up now. I understand how awesome they are, i understand that they make you awesome, more handsome, more efficient and way popular but dammit i just dont have the money (unless you want to sell me one for way cheap then pm me)

i need something with a little more meat to it. i will be off roading a bit with it and want to make sure the tires can handle it.

have you guys ever had a problem with tipping? got a link?

Years ago my buddy Don, remember him Jim?, and I talked about using a hydrostatic drive axle from a lawnmower to make a powered two wheeler. It never made it further than pencil sketches on scrap plywood though...I bought my first quad :)

Dudes, inside secret. Harbor Freight, its called a bale cart, about a hundred bucks. Mod it with screen grate or aluminum like what is shown here.

It does tip over.

I got a hand truck from harbor freight that has been good to me. It is blue with shields over the tires. Maybe $40 on sale. Not as good for bigger stuff as that bale cart, from the looks of it, but it is fairly compact and light.

I use the blade like a lever near the center of gravity, at an angle to the log. I pivot the log so that it is in line with the hand truck, with the slightly heavier end toward the handle. I can balance the log and pull or push it around. I was able to move a green redwood log that as about 9" avg diameter by 12' feet or so (maybe a bit larger on both measuremnts) easily by myself. I've also move heavier logs with some help.

A little extension on the corners of the blade would allow easier large round carrying, and allow a log to be cradled when moving logs laid perpendicular to the axle.

Here's one I made a few years ago. I started with the exact dolly that southsound is talking about, cut off the blade, covered it in 1" thick oak, added two front urethane caster swivel wheels, an additional back axel & wheels and a ratchet strap tie-down (not shown).

This son of a beeeotch is heavy...... but it rocks.

Here's a shot of the back ratchet, welded on.

And this shot, I just thought was cool.

And here's one, the cart actually carrying a log! This cart served me for years and its still alive because it's pretty indestructable. The weight is too much, though, and it sits high. I'm working on a new one, built of aluminum, a low-rider, longer and wider and half the weight.

Hey Marc,

Here's my uncle's website...
http://www.hamelequipment.com/

He will be making a video soon. The Super Cart and Four Wheel Arch are awesome workhorses! I have 4 Super Rakes in circulation around the Twin Cities as well as my own... definitely an eye catcher.

Here's a photo of an early version of the Super Cart...

The medium sized log arch is one of the best purchases i've made. the smaller one seems sweet too. I know its in a little different category but I'll endorse it anyway.

Getting a lot of material fast out of a backyard, there is nothing better for the money. Especially if your into doing any milling. Even A mini can not pick up such big pieces and handle them.
