Lithium powered saws?

I notice the Makita 36 volt also has a stated 3940 ft per minute chain speed. This to me is a great departure from the low speed (typically under 1000 ft per minute) high torque setups common with many of the older electrics as a low speed high torque chains render protective gear much less effective.
I hope this trend continues with higher voltage and larger drive sprockets.

Mine says this:

and it seems plenty fast to me. I wouldn't say it was slow, that's for sure.

Yeah I took the number from a page on the Makita website ( https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/XCU07PT) .....However it seemed a little hard to believe (and looking at another Makita web listing it says 1650 fpm) that's why I typed a "stated" speed. Your number seems a lot easier to believe, thanks for the information.

Meant to say "if you like". A 201 and 880 are apples and oranges too...but I know which I'd like better in the tree!

I'll go days pruning with only a handsaw, so a small battery saw to fit between my current top handle (just transitioned from Husqvarna 338 to Echo 355) is certainly attractive.

Interesting that the 20 MPS does indeed convert to 3937 FPM or 4700 FPM for the 24 MPS. Pretty incredible chain speed, which is a great departure from the norms of the older crop of electrics.

Bore Cutting with either saw. The 36v can be pushed hard and the 18v cannot be pushed at all;

It has a captive bar nut, a three position adjustable oiler, the oil cap looks like it seals better than the 36v unit. This should have been my first purchase (instead I bought the 36v first). I just assumed that the 18v would be too puny and weak to do what I wanted in a tree, but it cuts great with a sharp chain.

I was trying to bore cut with my milwaukee m18 fuel saw and had trouble. Is this because the 18v saws use more speed/less torque?

Thinking about replacing my old Stihl HT- 101 with this HTA- 85. Anyone running one? Reviews seem great.

It seems like anyone can make a lithium powered pole chainsaw these days. Buy one that fits your current battery system, or, like I did, wait for them to make one instead of getting a gas pole chainsaw? That one will surely do.

I don't really bother with all that. I have the little cams, I bought them for when I fish, but climbing is so gear intensive I never added them to my climbing kit. They're a huge hassle when I have used them. I really admire the folks who do that kinda stuff I don't have the patience. I just recently got my wife to video me doing a rope walk and when I loaded it up to Youtube they didn't retain the high video quality even though it was only a 40 second clip. That's discouraging.

Anyway, doubtful I'll do a video soon, but if you need a sweet in-tree saw, you can not go wrong with this thing. 6lbs and change, 4000+fps, Makita quality... DO it!

I thought I had the same thing happen to me when I uploaded a video onto yoohoo tube, but it turns out it can take up to a couple days after you upload for the high def to be "active."

Chiming in: I picked up the little Makita XCUO6Z a couple weeks ago and it is a lovely little saw. Very light, nice balance. As others have noted, you use it in place of your Zubat quite a bit so it changes the work positioning for all those cuts. It has been handling 4-5 inches every now and then no problem. It is much better at cutting small stuff than my Stihl 200T, which has its advantages. I'm really liking my first battery powered saw, it's a different way of going about the chain. I'm still in the early stages, will finally get it into the tree later today.

One of the best tools I purchased. Just a touch down in power from gas cousin, but super quiet (Saturday AM special, half the prune job done before 9:00 ordinance). Super light, reach out max and stay steady.

Take up in tree/lift when need be, much easier that starting a gas engine.

I was waiting for sthil tophandle to come out, but hear that one is a dog. Anyone concur?
