Looking for light weight and strong single piece wood handle blank poles for pruners and saw heads. Have used a variety of different woods , I've settled on my favorite labeled as Basswood, we bought from Karl Kummerling years ago. If you bought a dozen or ten or something we got a deal on shipping from Ohio to Nj. Interested in 12 at minimum 14 are real good thru 16 foot lengths. Not really interested in Ash, any Populus or Hemlock. That's all I've ever tried.. Anyone used any other species? If not going into phase two of make my own poles. Thanks for your time! Any leads are much appreciated!

I have often wondered how tight grained, knot free spruce would work. Several years ago, I build an umiak, a skin on frame boat, with the students I teach. It took a lot of stack sorting at the local Menards, but I managed to find some good, long relatively clear lengths of spruce for some of the stringers. I think there maybe some pole saw blank material potential there, but can't say for certain. I just know we did some pretty decent bends and it was far tougher than I thought it would be. Not to derail, but the photo shows what I'm talking about.

Call shelter tree they carry Basswood poles, but I know when I bought some there before they were 12'ers. Pretty sure they were anywau
Wonder how there making out selling lightning sticks. They look good except the price. I may try one this spring. Would love to try before I buy. Might have to trip up to Attleboro

Yeah tough cost to justify but to give you an idea you can hold two extensions with a saw head with one hand straight 90* from your body. They are insanely light

I'm retiring and have two dozen 14' basswood poles bought from KK years ago. They're still banded in bundles of twelve just as I received them. Interested?
