Lets see what you\'re doing!

OK, I'll kick this off...

Here are some pictures of tree work in Bermuda
First is a Norfolk Pine removal, had to be sectioned down to avoid the house and power lines...huh, tried to post more but it only goes one at a time unless I'm missing something!

Right let's have some of yours!

No, you can only post one pic at a time here.

Every click a different pic!

Re: Lets see what you\'re doing!

I'll have to ask for your all's patience here. I should have an opportunity to do some climbing in the next couple of weeks and I will have David take some pics. As I have said other places, he is the climber and I am the ground crew in normal (want to get the job done in this century) situations.

But I need the practice so will post pics then. (They won't be nearly as impressive as your's, Bermie!)

Re: Lets see what you\'re doing!

dang girl, right on! is norfolk island pine an aurocaria? we have aurocaria aurocana here - monkey puzzle tree. mean suckers, full of spikes and crazy adhesive sap. here's me taking out a friendlier native tree - doug fir. on a busy street, wires and pedestrians and buildings. kinda sad as it was healthy. some little convenience store was threatening to sue a non-profit over it...lame.

Re: Lets see what you\'re doing!

last one - pretty good sized (80 ft?) codom maple removal, houses less than 6 ft away on both sides, hot tub below, fence ,lots of basement windows, 6 different phone/cable wires, etc. crazy rigging required. fun day.

great thread! anyone else?

Re: Lets see what you\'re doing!

200'!!! I'd have to breathe real deep to go that high!
Yes, norfolk pine is Aurucaria, excelsia I think...don't quote me. These ones are not as spikey as a monkey puzzle, but still have that real sticky sap. The branches are VERY snappy, fly off like missiles in a hurricane, and the trees are often well over 60'. People got worried after our last big hurricane and want them taken out.

Next picture is a balancing act in a casuarina, removal of invasive species in a nature reserve!

Re: Lets see what you\'re doing!

Ok, Kathy and Bermie; you guys are a hard act to follow!! But I am going to post my pics anyway. Here is a picture of me up a little maple. Tons of deadwood and hangars. I realize these aren't the dramatic pics of a removal, but it's what I can do.

I'm catching the thread but the subject line is very vague, very open to interpretation....

You know what, never sell yourself short...those kinds of jobs are oftentimes harder! No spikes, cuts have to be placed properly and accurately, you are making decisions that will affect the tree for many years to come, the dramatic takedowns photograph well but other than safety and target issues its a chop and drop, it doesn't have to look good, just get it down!

I did a small mahogany the other week, no more than 25' up, but clambering all over the show, little cuts, no chainsaw, silky and secateurs...high visibility and amenity value tree whew!

The subject is broad (no pun intended) intentionally...let's see what we are all doing, in the air, on the ground, big, small post 'em all!

Re: Lets see what you\'re doing!

On the smaller side of things...this picture is of my first attempt at creating a Bonsai. I am taking courses through the Univ of No. Dak with Prof Bob Underwood (online) and this was an assignment in the Arboriculture class we just finished.

Kind of a fun aspect of our profession. The subject was a neglected juniper at a local nursery. Hope it survives so I can continue to shape it. (It was super bushy to start.) The pot is not the final pot it will be in. I had to stay with a bigger pot to start so as not to kill it outright!

I must confess I find learning about trees really fun. And I am constantly reminded that there is a wealth of information out there just waiting to be tapped. (That's what these forums are all about, eh?)

Re: Lets see what you\'re doing!

Thank you so much for the link! This assignment really triggered my interest and I would like to play around with this some more here in my garden.

Finding suitable pots that are also affordable was something I hadn't even given a thought to until I went searching. Prof Bob suggested second hand stores also. (Which hadn't occurred to me.)
