Lets see some shit... Shitty tree work picks from other companies in your area.

I should have taken a photo, I know I have a before and a copy of the first known photo. I got called to consult and bid on a pear tree, the client had a photo from around 1900 of the original family standing at the front door, that showed the tree about 6’ tall.
When I quoted it was close to 30’. Drove by and it was about 14’ tall.
Damn shame

There are several DED resistant cultivars that require/demand skilled structural pruning annually for the first few years. We all know that is t going to happen. As a result the trees become terrible. I see them and can’t imagine any living to
Half of their potential before structural failure
Yeah...Valley Forge is supposed to be among the most disease resistant. However, they have HORRIBLE form. I was doing some young tree training for a city a few years ago. They had 7-8 that hadn't been touched for a few years and there was absolutely no hint of anything we could train into a leader.

Another client has us out every year or every other year since I planted the tree maybe 8 years ago and it barely has acceptable form. The problem is they grow too fast...it will out on 4-6' of growth too quickly and that is to flimsy and it bends over before the wood has any chance to harden off and keep a single trunk.

This came across my local news feed. I'm not sure which is more disappointing, the unpermitted trees being removed or the name of the company doing the work....

Wow, that is sad, clearly that Lorax does not “speak for the trees” either, unless there was something wrong that I could not see.

Also, it looks like the trees were simply felled into the parking lot, so somebody is probably going to have a hefty paving bill to fix that mess as well.

I would think it’s their responsibility to find out.
What if Eugene belongs to Tree City USA then you need to pull a permit no matter who’s property it is or where the tree is located

This one hits twice for me. Plagiarizing my favorite Dr. Seuss to do a crap job of my trade.

That has little or nothing to do with Tree City USA designation. Arbor day doesn't require that the city permit tree workers. Nor does it require the city to fine bad practices. Heck, the city can actually implement bad practices and still qualify. Doesn't say they have to follow the recommendations of the tree board of follow the community tree ordinance. Just that they have to have one.

Here are the requirements:
  1. Maintaining a tree board or department
  2. Having a community tree ordinance
  3. Spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry
  4. Celebrating Arbor Day

As to ownership of the trees....that depends on the contract. The responsibility to confirm ownership should be assigned to the client in the contract. So if they had a decent contract, that should come back to whoever told them to remove the trees. But I doubt they do, so it is probably on the contractor.

Oh man it’s bad down here. It’s everywhere you look.

Just a couple days ago driving around a nice neighborhood I saw fresh spike marks up a large silver maple and Great Stuff in the cavities about 20’ up. I’ve actually climbed a tree this guy did this to before. What a knucklehead!

In Dearborn Michigan which participates in the Tree City USA you have to pull a permit and to get a permit you have to have a letter from a certified arborist to have permission to cut any tree down with in the city limits or you will be fined! Not sure what the fines are.

Yes...but that is above and beyond TCUSA expectations. That is Dearborn's choice. They could do that without TCUSA as well.
