Spiked my lava last week, my gaff went half way through the rope. is it still safe to climb? showing some fibers from the damage. It's brand new also, damn. I'll post some pics later this week.

I like to use a key chain biner clipped on the ring on the boot strap on my gaffs to keep the tail on the outside of my foot while using the spikes. Works pretty well for me.

I also spiked my rope this past week. I'll have to try your little trick.

I always put a biner on the back of my climbing harness and weave the rope thru it...tends to make it fall behind me and out a couple of inches.

My avatar is a pic I took while dead wooding a Pin Oak on the quad at the University Of Missouri. Academic Hall, the first building on MU's campus, was built in the middle of the present day quad. It burned in 1892, leaving only the six columns that now stand in the center of Francis Quadrangle.
