That rope is a doozy for sure, would not attempt a used end splice.

I've had some success with used ends. Also failures though. I find it has really helped to soak the rope in water overnight if its not brand new.

Nice work on your first go! I'm not going to lie, I cut the third core out of that stuff. I don't see a major use of it any way but I'm also not splicing for others like Tuttle. Tachyon is a pain to run home unlike Blue Moon or Ocean Poly. I don't think you even need a fid to splice Ocean.

On the subject of beer, pick up a bottle of Palo Santo Marron from Dogfish Head. Awesome brew! That or the 120 Minute! Cheers!

Bearing in mind I haven't done Tachyon yet, I started but gave up, do you just treat it like double braid after removing the 3rd core?

That's what I did. I tapered and removed the inner core before the final bury. Class 1 double braid.
But I will be trying the proper instructions next time around.
IMO the inner core really isn't the challenge with Tachyon - it's just a tough rope to work with.

I agree with Robinia all the way. The rope is just a pain compared to other ropes. Nothing compares to the first run of Cougar Blue that was released in the states though. I ripped my anchor out of the wall on that one. So so difficult.

Broke a fid today trying once again to splice a lanyard out of said rope. Back to the above thread to figure out a way to do this without injuring myself.
