Lava rope

Lava is the same thing as tachyon, just colored differently. I like tachyon, but a lot of people say they don't like it's small diameter. It's a little on the stretchy side for SRT as well.

I've been using Tachyon from the beginning and now Lava at work. I've never felt that stretch was an issue.

It's good to have a bit of stretch to absorb the energy in a fall. Otherwise the shock goes to the climber's body and TIP.

I switched from Velocity to Tachyon (AKA Lava @ Sherrill) and havent looked back. NERopes makes a great product. Stays round under load, is always firm, and I havent noticed any extra stretch. The jacket also doesnt milk as much as velocity.

Yeah, I don't want a rope that milks so thats one reason why I'm looking at Lava but would like to know more good and bad things about it before I make a decision to buy it when I get the extra money.

I agree that the stretch in a rope is not a bad thing Tom, I just prefer other ropes to tachyon for my SRT climbing. It's my first choice for DRT climbing though. @Donny, yeah a have a 200' of tachyon and one day you wanna climb, your welcome to try it out.

Sounds good. You know I'm down to climb any day.

See the climbing competition thread in the competition section. It's the end of April the last weekend well saturday with set up friday... and it's near columbus.

Just got some lava and I think it compares favorably with poison ivy. A little fatter in the hand but it feels slightly softer when squeezed hard. The one big downer is that I climb on the lockjack and the rope is so light that it doesn't want to self tend as I am returning from a long limbwalk. Not much to complain about just different and a nonissue if you climb on a friction hitch.
