seems like australia always has a bunch - maybe ask kiah? ontario actually limits the number of women who compete i think. anyone know for sure? pnw had i believe only one woman ever compete before i started, and for the 5 yrs i've been competing i'd guess the total of other female competitors at around..4? that's total other than me in 5 yrs. lame.

Re: Largest Women\'s Competition?

Nice one Kathy! I had a feeling somebody might go there.

Thanks for the ref on Kiah & Ontario. I'll check into it.
It's crazy the Northwest is lacking on the girl front. I grew up there and it seems like there are totally more daring women up there than down here in So Cal.

Anyone else know?

Re: Largest Women\'s Competition?

Thanks Jersey Girl,

I'm wondering if there have ever been as many girls as there have been guys. Or at least close to it.

Could you imagine 30 girls competing with each Chapter actually having to put a "first 30 to sign up gets in" on their websites?

I think someday it will happen, but it's going to take getting the vision out there, and then before you know it, those women that were destined to find their way to the world of trees will get here.

I know, that's a crazy vision, but I truly believe that it will bring an additional positive dimension to the arborist industry and to the sport of tree climbing.

Anyway, the reason why I'm so interested is because the more I encourage women to do it, the more I want to make sure my Chapter is prepared to handle that increase in numbers for the competition.

Re: Largest Women\'s Competition?

Hi Everyone

Victoria (a southern state in Australia) had 8 women in 2005? I think it was and we also had 8 women in the Australian TCC this year (2008).

We often have climbers from New Zealand come across and also Germany and the United Kingdom.

Consistently we have around 4 or 5 every year at the National (Chapter) level.

Re: Largest Women\'s Competition?

Hi Kiah,

As far as the event organization goes, are the women mixed in with the men, just like the ITCC?
How many total climber's are there and about how many judges does it take to put this on?
Is there a sepperate Master's Climb for the women or do you use the same tree/set up as the men's? How many women did you have do the Master's?

Sorry for all the questions, but that's my goal for next year and I want to make sure I help our chairman prepair for the increase in numbers.

Thanks!

Re: Largest Women\'s Competition?

Hi there

We have had events where women were in their own group which was great but also events at regional and national levels where we are all mixed up - which is also great. ATCC recently, we were all mixed in with two women in each group and around eight or nine in each group all up.

We usually have around 35 males and up until now, up to 8 females at every comp at every level (regional, national).

Masters Challenge can be separate trees or same tree with same number of stations and more time, or one fewer stations and same or more time. If the Women's Division have their own tree obviously it is what it is - # of stations in said time.

Depending on time available to run the event and daylight hours left in the day, we will have two or three women from Australia and if other factors permit, we will allow other non Australia Chapter climbers to compete as well (both men's and women's division).

It really all depends how things pan out toward the middle to end of the preliminary events as to extra climbers we can accommodate etc etc.

Hope this helps

Kiah

Re: Largest Women\'s Competition?

It totally does help. Thank you!!! My goal for next year is to get 8 women at our comp and I really think it is do-able. After this weekend I think we totally inspired a few more to compete.

Our men's Master's Comp yesterday was really awesome and it ran very smooth. There were 5 competitors. The 1st climb started about 9:30 and it was all over by 12:30, so I'm thinking if they add 3 more women that would bring the day to about 2pm.

I'm going to run the different options you mentioned by our Chairman Jose and see what he thinks.

What might work is if we have it set up in the same tree and have a few different placed stations.

Thanks for all the feedback!!!

Hey, just to let you know the Western WOTTies keep growing. I think we are up to a total of 60 folks!!!
