This past weekend we had a booth at the local Home Show and got to meet interesting folks with some intriguing tree-related questions.
A lady from New Brunswick has a mature Larch or Tamarack as they're known around here, in her yard. Every spring the tree attracts wasps and hornets that are aggressive to anyone sitting outside. There are no obvious wounds or splits in the tree and no obvious sap seeping from the tree.
In our area of Halifax we cannot use insecticides or pesticides within the city limits. I'm not sure about cities in New Brunswick.
Anyhow, can anyone give me a suggestion as to why these insects like the Larch and what could be done to discourage them. I'd like to get back to her before she feels compelled to get the tree removed!
