lanyard insanity

call me ol school, dumbass or whatever but i recently dumped my buckingham pole strap after 14 years of service for a yale 5/8" x 15' flip line with a petzl macro-whatever adjuster. (i'm in georgia and they just aint no big wood left here) i adjust my lanyard with my right hand so therefore the fixed end is on the left dee ring. my saw is on the right and i'm starting to think, although i cant believe i went this long without the extra lenght, because of the all the chaos i have on my right hip now i need to replace my ol' pole strap and forget this insanity. the 'petzel' always seems to be upside down or inside out and the rope is forever under my feet, around my saw or the fixed end is always stuck in a crotch about 600 feet(ok a few feet) above or below me. new scho....whoooo? i aint seeing the light just now

You need to have me come and be your Personal Lanyard Trainer. You'll be converted I know :)

How can you like a pole strap? The adjuster is ALWAYS on the back of the tree instead of right there on your hip? My strap got retired twenty years ago and I don't miss that heavy chunk one bit!

Take a picture of your setup and post it. There are lots of ways to solve the issues that you're having.

one move the petzl to the oppsite side of the saw. Connect a biner to the hanging tail and snap that to your saddle so it aint hanging and flapping about. When you connect the petzl to your d-ring you want it flat side out.

personal lanyard trainer, huh? a pole strap gets a bite in the positive position on trees that have lost their bark where this rope, without a wrap, never will. 80% of my climbing time is spent on gaffs with a safety in a dead tree that should have been cut 2 years ago. tie in points are nonexistent. no ill will intented but i was just looking a little advice

a twisted clevis should help the upside down micro ascender

that maybe the answer to my problem that i explained so well, right? thank u sir

My lanyard is about 13' long, I leave about 7' ready to go and then just daisy chain the rest so it's there for a big spar or whenever I need it. You end up with two loops and a daisy chain, it all hangs above the knee and stays out of your way for the most part. Hope that helps.

i put a torch to a clevis yesterday and saw that was the solution to my problem and i ordered the twisted clevis from sherrill this morning. tom dunlap thanks u the patronization it wont be soon forgotten

Use the twisted clevis if you want to pull to the side to tend slack. Use a caribiner if you want to pull down to tend slack.

If the clevis is used you will want to fix it to your side D, which will be a pain to take off. Also if you go with the clevis, locktite the threads of the pin and put a zip tie in the pin hole and tighten it back to the clevis for backout security.

During my first years with a steel core flip,(1985)
We used a flip line hitch off our side Dee ring.
Then used a locking biner back to the saddle for the tail end.
It was very easy to use and could be adjusted with 1 hand.
I now use all the above crap that was written above,
but I could be happy with either set up. But if the trunk is
slick, I always use a flip and tie in, it's easy for me
descend 6' and push off a chunk. Or even if you are
using a pull line you can ride down on that too.
Many different ways, just be safe and live to talk about it tomorrow.

when a man starts off a conversation with me, with "we used....." well, enough said, right? in 1984 david lee roth said "GO AHEAD AND JUMP"??

Here's a solution that solves both issues:

A choking pole strap
An adjuster that is at the harness not in back of the tree

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

What works for me ... on my left Dee , a half-twist clevis with a Gibbs + 12 foot 3 strand .... on my right Dee my old High-Vee split tail girthed to the Dee , Blake hitched + my old 10 foot 3 strand ..... both safties use old school non-locker rope snaps ... I do hang everything sharp on my left as well as the favored safety side ( straight pole take-down ) , so I gotta be careful ....

I climb with a microadjuster w twist clevis. I use this and a split tail climbing system both. I used to have the split tail system thru an adjustable fric saver but know use a monkey tail set up. What I like about using both at the same is it is easier to grip. Also if something happens(ie.bees) unclip the safety and descend
