Kongs new Duck

I was shown this today by the head of distribution in the US for Kong. This is an awesome small little device that would be perfect for a lanyard. Best part is it works on ropes 1/4"-1/2" AND WEBBING SLINGS!!!!! The teeth are situated in such a way that when it raises up the rope it will not mar the fibers, and it stays locked even with no weight on it. Similar devices have a tendency to float when theres no weight. This little device is ultra light, and super easy to install with ONE hand! Price isn't finalized yet but should be somewhere in the $50 range.

I should see some of them in a few weeks. When my first shipment comes I will be putting one to use on my lanyard, both rope and steel core.

US Rigging will be offering their steel core Lanyards with the Duck installed as well.

Hey BostonB I have seen some earlier posts on this it looks like a very useful device do you think they will make a bigger one for rigging operations if you want to do a spider web/leg attachment thing? I believe thats what you call it...can these devices be used for that?

Before you rush off and get new tools like this it pays to do some Googling. There is some discussion about it on Rockclimbing.com I believe, from last winter. Find out what other rope techs know first.

Rigging? I think not...IMO cord/rope adjusters are better. Having something that will slip/grab and not damage the rope is a better interface.

what are they saying? I see two uses, lanyard adjuster thats really compact, and as a backup to a mechanical device.

I like the price, features, and size. Have only demo'd it @ expo quickly. From my understanding these arent even in the US yet....?

Looks like it would be excellent as a rope grab/footloop holder for one of the bungee ropewalker setups for SRT or DRT that Gerry and others have been making by stripping down a Pantin for one side of the system.

It is odd, no mention of load rating in any of the specs if you're going to use it to hang your life on.

Nope can get it here yet.

Just like most the new gadgets, main reason I shop overseas. By the time the USA approves it they have something new and better.
