I got knuckle boom on the brain. I find my self fantasizing about knuckle booms regularly. Every job I see a k-boom stealing the show.
Right now we use a f-350 4x4 srw reg cab, 12k dump trailer, f-450 4x4 w/chip dump box, bandit 90xp, ramrod w/branch manager. Most of our niche work is spots you can't get a bucket or work a bucket does not want. Technical remote/ backyard/ water front removals and hand pruning estate landscape woody stem ornamentals.
For starts I want to get a chassis w/18,000-26,000 gvwr w/dump, 12'-14' flat bed, stake side, soft roll back top/cover with a k-boom 35'+ range that could feed the chipper or assist with removals/prunes but would be used mostly for loading logs and/or other materials on/into the flat bed or dump trailer. Thoughts?
I do want a 60'+ k-boom to put these bucket guys into retirement. It would have to be able to make money as a crane service, to keep a cdl driver on staff.
This is the question, what set up would fill the 60'+ spot. Around 750-1000lbs@ horizontal would do. What cheap (er), high (er) milage, chassis and what new k-boom (s)is what would be the best bangk for your buck? 90' would be swell but where does the chassis required and crane jump in cost when dealing with k-booms over 60'.
thanks
