Knuckleboom

The truck reaches to 100-110' to the side, 1k lbs at that radius.

We want more vids!

Looks like the basket on the end of the boom would be a bit more fun with a shock absorber or something to keep it from spinning so willy nilly like.

Its an amazing truck, the owner must not be too shabby making it all work together doing tree work

Nice videos, very insightfull. I pose a question though, the dynamic loading that was visible seemed.........high? I'v done a bunch of crane work, by no means alot, but I've never seen/made a boom move that much. I only ask 'cause I don't know exactly, I have an idea based on my experiences, but...

I saw it but I figure with a knuckleboom boom more movement is normal with all the joints (between the sections, not so much the knuckles) and the angles the boom is at (more horizonal, a cranes boom is more vertical with the winch coming down). With a 141' boom at a 130' radius my weight pulling down on the hook makes quite a bit of movement, I figure boom deflection is worse at lower angles is what I am getting at.

I wondered if having a winch would make it smoother.

There is more deflection for sure. If you watch it close, you'll also see that Mike moves the boom to get the piece off of the cut, which will cause the piece to move more as well. Looks like he knows what he's doing though.

There wasnt much dynamic loading. Like mark said he would usually move the boom to pick the piece. I only saw 1 time it loaded it butr the piece was small. Mike is real good at making the cuts. putting the saw away and then picking the piece once he moves out of the way. One big advantage to the remote control.

Hey guys i just found this on here. Thanks allmark for taking all the vids and then taking the time to post. Allmark you're grade "A" Knucklebooms definately have a little more deflection but i completely screwed up on that pick in the first video (the pick with not enough tension that slipped off the shelf) As i told mark that's my worst pick in 6 mos. Good thing thing the camera was rolling huh! I'll try to get somebody around here to get some more video for me. Had a blast hanging out w/ mark: checking out trees, talking about bus., exchanging ideas etc.
