Knuckleboom crane for Arbor-X

Re: Pictures of Arbor-X K-boom.

this was a large white oak removal (100% dead, shame, nice big tree).

tree removal started, snow was forcasted to come around 4 or 6pm. snow came at like 9:30am, typical.

we did stop when snow got deep and was covering roads. came back a week later to finish.

Here's picture near the start of the removal.

Re: Pictures of Arbor-X K-boom.

tree almost done.

taking off one more fat chunk.

this tree had swing, owner wanted to leave the main trunk with this swing limb. He says he will strip the bark in an attempt to keep it from rotting fast.

swing is seen on the truck's bed stakes.

Very nice using the crane for a perfect tie in point on those fat cuts. Sure beats making the cut with only using lanyards and spurs.

Re: Pictures of Arbor-X K-boom.

I'm already dreaming of a bigger k-boom with a fly jib.

Some day when I'm almost out of debt maybe...... :).

check out this truck, when mine was in getting some work done.

new Peterbilt, two rear drive axles, front axle (as in the very front of the truck) is a drive axle also!

3 lift axles!

very long frame.

lots of custom aluminum work.

this company that owns this truck, ordered 4 new Peterbilts, all with Palfinger k-booms, but this one was the biggest k-boom. (Poured-concrete company in Kansas or Texas...)

85 metric ton with fly-jib.

horizontal reach like 107 foot or something close to that.

that Palfinger 85002 is available with a fly-jib and horizontal reach of 113'6". That's what I'd want.

they make a 100 ton, but the max reach is like 105'.

I can see where a fly-jib would be very useful in tree work. I wish palfinger would make a small stationary bent jib for mine. It would keep limbs/logs away from the main boom. I'm thinking about having one fabricated, but don't want to void any waranty, so maybe not.

Re: Pictures of Arbor-X K-boom.

they do, but the main boom would have to be six extensions, instead of eight, and fly-jib would have like six also. total horizontal like around 96 feet i think.

so, i couldn't add it now, maybe with modifications? I dont' know, i haven't asked.

I thought it was more important on this truck to have hydraulic power out to the end of the boom. And i'll be honest, i didn't fully understand the benefit of a fly-jib.

I do still think it's important for me to have hydro power at the end.

we have no bucket truck, so this truck is our bucket truck too.

I've never used hydraulic tools, but they seem like they'd be nice and fast.

Re: Pictures of Arbor-X K-boom.

That's a lot of money for a rig but when you consider it's a bucket truck, log loader/ hauler, and crane all in one I think it's a wise investment. I can't believe how much you can do with it.
