so you cant really compare apples to apples with charts then. I said they have weaker charts, you said you can pick more with your 50t than a 30t Altec @ 100'. I would hope so, you have 20t more capacity.

There is a difference in the rating between the kboom and straight boom. k booms are rated as ton/meter and straight and AT are ton. different measurements.

The 30 ton altec is 30 t close to the truck.....mine is 18 t weight next to the truck(we dont pick much there) but at 100' I can out pick it. This is were the comparison comes in. That and it is on the same size truck with the same mobility.

Not much comparison at all w/ the AT crane. the ones you quoted are a lot bigger(capacity) and 2x the cost. I dont know the cost on one of comparible capacity.

Once you have run a boom with 3 KNUCKLES & so many extensions, unlimited boom angle issues, every other crane seems like a step down (maybe just to me.) I do realy like AT cranes. But the authorities here would not let me drive one of those job to job, & definately not out of town like i often go.

mike, cool picture.

i've noticed your lift axles down in past pictures too.

my thought is to keep it up, because the lift axle will always add air pressure to try and keep the same pounds on the lift axle tires; and when the outriggers take off weight, the lift axles might try to extend really far and the other tires can't do this.

I've tried it both ways. I did think at one time, it was good to have as many tires down as I could, but then decided against it, because the other tires don't have a lot of weight on them, but the lift axle will always try to keep the same weight load on them, as when they are running down the road.

i've never asked anyone about this.

i'm not confident on what is best. your thoughts?

any truck driver tell ya they only get used to help with load weight. Does the boom add weight to the bed of the truck while picking? If not then they not doing a darn thing.
