Klemheist as an eye-to-eye hitch

Most of us will know the Klemheist from footlocking, tied with a long loop of prussic cord, often on doubled static line.

Lately, I've been tying my 8mm Beeline eye-to-eye cord in a Klemheist configuration and have found it locks on reliably, slack tending is smooth, load seems well distributed on descents, but best of all stays very compact compared to other hitches using the same length of cordage.

Anyone else?

I dont know if it was the cord I was using, but when I tried using a klemheist it seemed to lock up and not slide as easily as i wanted, especially on decent. I really like the simplicity of the knot though.

shankenstein,

Should have said from the start: Good old 1/2" Sampson Arbormaster.

lionniels,

It does bite quite hard, but I've had no problems with releasing it on limb-walks or descents.

I used it this week in pouring rain, still let me get around OK. Requires a bit more determined tug than a knute or VT, but again, I just like how compact it is.

It's no "Great Next Thing" or anything like that, just one of those things that pop into your head on a Sunday afternoon and you think, Hey, why not?

Do you have to break it to move once it gets tight? Has it broken open and not locked down reliable untill you re-set it?

When I say break I mean twisting the loop open to release it and untie it. I would be afraid it could pop open and just go slack.

No need to break it, just a good tug.

Resets and holds VERY reliably, even after having been slack on a longish Pantin assisted ascent. (I've tied VT's that needed a slap or two to behave in the same situation. No such problems, so far.)

As always, try it low and slow to start...
