kauri tree nz

that sucks!

They are such huge old trees, yet not many people know about them.

I hope that they are understood and respected in time before it's too late.

People know the giant sequoia, coastal redwood and some the baobabs, not many know the Kauri trees; yet they are just as magnificent.

Thanks for your efforts. Climb on.

straight up i dont think its fair to blame sayin something rude on the fact that one may have had a few drinks, specially when it happens somewhat frequent.
now this post might upset some of you at first, but its just meant to get you thinking, and then maybe learn something

That is a good point. I can recall at least half a dozen times he backed down the day after a few beers, and blamed the typing on the alcohol. Pretty lame, and maybe it's time to hide the keyboard when you drink.

Whenever i get drunk I go in my basement and work on the old train set. woowooo!

Whatever, it certainly made for a long winded thread over wtf. I bloody forgot my question by now.

DBT you do some cool work. How do you get these projects and who pays. Not really looking to get an answer, you might not want to disclose such info, but just my curiosity.

Just got back from Cambodia and seems somebody there needs a really good arborist. Wanted to ask around how they deal with some of the tree problems they have there around the ruins. Just I am not really the really good arborist so I would just be sailing wind. But you never know the practices they use might be really archaic.

Now this is the coolest thread on the buzz for a while, two of my favorite climbers...both on opposite sides of the world ( both passionate people )...David and Drew...oh and I left out Stephan, but he was shaving his B's...lol...wish I was there for that weekly spectacle could have shared that in the rigging section...seriously I love what you are doing Drew, those trees are majestic and need to be saved, seems like a large task who better than you to take that on...you have the passion...keep posting love it...

The buzz has been so BORING for a long time....

Drew awesome stuff I can't wait for more video. Honestly, never heard of this tree.

For a little bit there I swore I saw you on double rope

You sure did buddy!! double, single-its all ropes n trees!! because we are barefoot, the doubl makes things a bit easier at times.
AdkPk- we do it purely for the passion and the enjoyment, sometimes money can be offered but its by no means a way of living. Our expeditions in south africa have been helped amazingly by Yale Cordage, ActSafe ascenders, ABR/ISC and treestuff. without these guys we probably couldnt do it. the more focus we can bring on these amazing big trees then the possibility of getting non-arb sponsors ie big corporations involved is higher, and at the end of the day these guys have the big bucks that is needed. The measuring of these trees in NZ, South Africa and in march i go to Chile, is helping build a nice dtabase of the big trees around the globe, hopefully we can build a database ( the notable tree trust of NZ is already onto this) that is available for all to see and help understand the differences of the great trees around the world.and bring much needed attention to them.

Really? I don't think it has been very frequent lately.

Also, have you ever gone out with a group of friends to some bar, by the end of the night, two good friends get pissed at each other and almost come to blows? If they really are good friend and compatible, the following day or even that night they are closer than ever. Or, if they are not compatible, it might push them away from each other, especially if some truth was revealed. You don't think that alcohol had a part in their exaggerated outburst?

I backed down??? Screw you EZ. Backing down my azz. All I do is be honest.

Yeah, hide the keyboard from me and treebuzz will get even more boring.
Better yet, put a plug-in USB breathalyzer on every treebuzz person's computer (M.C. joking idea) and only allow them to get on the buzz if they are under a certain amount. Then everyone can be all nicey nicey and not ever have any lowered inhibitions.

OHHhh! another good idea, Everyone has to take a pledge that if they have a bad day they are NOT allowed to get on the buzz. That way we will only ever kiss each other's butts.

I'm not perfect and I'm not running for political office nor do I need more friends.

If I make a mistake or I'm wrong, I will admit it.

I've met a few guys from treebuzz that are constantly polite and never say a negative thing or correct anybody. Then you meet them in person and they talk bad about everyone and have a lot of hate built up inside.

The guys that are honest and speak their mind tend to be the best guys to hang out with and really good people.

yes, there are some truly all-the-time, nice, good people out there. I take stress out on a forum sometimes, I'm not perfect and I will always admit that.

Back down my azz, all I did and do is tell the truth. If it's the truth and it looks like backing down to you, so what, I will always speak the truth.

Hi Drew, thanks for posting the video I really enjoyed the climb with you and your colleagues.

There are quite a few here on the buzz who understand just how important it is to get the message of the value of trees across to the general public...and to ensure that the decision maker are aware of that informing process along the way too.

For those that don't know what the situation is with PTA and Kauri here in NZ then I strongly suggest you visit the Kauri Dieback website http://www.kauridieback.co.nz/

The current govt here has cut all the funding for research and has turned their backs on these iconic forest monarchs. I know that is something not unknown to many US Arbs.

There is no 'cure'for PTA just as there is none for any Phytophthora sp pathogens world wide, however the hygiene protocols work and experience in Oz and elsewhere has shown the spread can be slowed dramatically.

Along with many others here (including some Arbs) we are doing our very best to spread the word about helping to prevent further spread of PTA and to maintain the uninfected areas outside of the confirmed hotspots.

There are still some amazing pre clearing forest trees hidden in parts of northwestern Auckland and I certainly hope that efforts like that shown in the video from Drew will go some way to help build greater appreciation of just how much we will all lose.

You're right. Alcohol is the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.

No, it's more bullsh*t. I have a basement full of David Driver for Alderman posters he had me make up for him. He told me if I could get him elected we could hang out together and make a difference.

Now what am I going to do with these things? I may be getting sued by 20th Century Fox and Marvel for the copyright violations.

And he probably won't remember ordering them now; I thought he may have been drinking, he kept asking if I had ever kissed another guy, "even just for fun."

Fun to think of TreeStuff as supporting this. Have you ever looked into what’s happening with (I think it’s referred to as crowd funding?) I think the site Kickstarter is one place to work it through. I have heard of incredible results happening on cause type things that people can get behind and believe in.

Things live and things die. The earth is constantly changing though we are often the vectors for the change happening much more quickly than would happen naturally.

I live on a piece of land where the forest is changing because of fungus in the soil killing large numbers of certain species trees. I know that it will affect how that forest feels for me and my generation and perhaps the next one but it will still be like any environment, constantly in a state of change.

Shouldn't we enjoy what is here and marvel at the fungus as much as the plants that they kill? It might be that much more impressive.

i appreciate that that is your opinion but i personally would rather see these great trees standing for another 1000 yrs. out of context but do you take the same view on all diseases?
