Kask stank

I won a kask helmet at our comp and noticed it seemed to be hotter and retain odor alot more than my petzls.Well that helmet got damaged so I purchased another one till i get the replacement parts.We worked thru a huge rain storm the other day and I was soaked.Well now the kask stinks horribly and I cant get rid of it.I had my last petzl for years and gave it away and the guy I gave it to said it smelled like shampoo.Whats the deal with the kask they look cool but man they can retain some stank.

I have put my petzl in the dishwasher mainly to wash the pad in the front that rests on your forehead. Maybe try that

If you put a helmet in the dishwasher make sure that you don't have it set to dry the dishes. The water doesn't get too hot but the heating element will!!!

I take my Stein (Kask) into the shower with me each week to wash it good. My wife looks at me really funny too.

Afterwards, I hang it in my mechanical room and let the furnace air dry it off nicely.

I am not a fan of my new Kask....I like my vertex much better, not as hot, fits better and just seems better all around built.

I really don't think you can do much better than a Petzl

Could it be your diet?

Like do you eat a lot certain foods like garlic, etc, the residue oozing out through sweat?

Anyone tried vinegar?

Jimmy,

Try the spray-on-wipe-off motorcycle helmet liner fresheners. Even a vented fullface lid gets real hot in stop and go traffic.

Eventually you HAVE to really wash it, I've used the dishwasher for my petzl, no dry cycle bears repeating, but for day to day the motorcycle helmet products work nicely.

I brought my Kask home from work. Ran a bucket of hot water for it and added some soap. when I shower I'll rinse it. My nose is broken so my sense of smell isn't 100%...maybe I'm lucky in this case

The other climber at work takes the liner out of his and washes it every weekend.

I washed it twice its better,but its raining alot still so im sure it will gather the funk again.

Nah i had a petzl for years and it still doesnt stink,its the rain and the kask.I think most are in denial or just wil not admit it cause they paid so much for the kask and plus its the "cool thing " right now.

Jimmy. I wrap a bandana from my freezer/cooler around my headband everyday. That adorable little piece of fabric they call a sweat band can't handle my manly locks.

I find the helmet cooler than both of my petzl helmets, and that's considering that I have 12" more hair.

Seriously? Its $6 more than the topof the line vented Petzl.

I'm keeping my Petzls and getting rid of the kask... nuff said for me at least.
