I'll try not to get big jobs like this in the future. Told the client to get other bids, still landed on my lap. 50% over house, the other two sides are ~5' from black top, so no laying the trunk down, no dropping of big pieces. Very long two days with a three man crew. Glad it's done. it's good money, but I still rather do two or three sub 30" trees instead.

the stump is massive. glad I have my new sc60tx with newly sharpened teeth. Only took 45 min. Stump of The other "smaller" tree - also a dead red oak, 32", took 15 min. Got to love this machine!

It took a lot of research and loss of sleep to finally fit a 6" green wheel on a heavy duty angle grinder so I can sharpen them on the machine. I'm sure you OSHA conscious people will hammer on me. However, it's pretty well done and safe with low speed. If there is an interest, I can post pictures and a write-up later.

instruction:
Milwaukee 5in variable speed angle grinder (Northern tools, about 140)
2 x 5/8 nuts
2 x 5/8 washer
1 x 5/8 3" long bolt
6" green wheel

thread the 2 nuts on the bolt. use an angle grinder to grind of at least 1/4 worth of material on the edge of each nut where they join together. weld them together. grind n polish to the degree u desire.

keep the under piece of the original arbor pieces where it should be. apply some thread lock to the 5/8 thread on the grinder. thread the double nut u just made on it. tighten it up really well. now, apply plenty red thread lock to the end of the hardware store 5/8 bolt. thread it into the double nut. tighten it really, really well (these two pieces will never need to come apart. u can also weld the bolt to the nut for added safety). measure the length of the bolt u need to keep and cut off the rest. Now, you are ready to put the 6" green wheel over the new thread and tighten it up with the original upper arbor nut that came with the grinder. U r done!

this design lets u take the whole assembly off and use the grinder for its intended purpose whenever u desire.
