Jungle Spikes on 288XP

I've had my Husqvarna 288XP since 1997 and as I am more into climbing and tree knowledge my knowledge of chainsaws has suffered.

Someone recently told me that I have Jungle Spikes on my 288XP, seemingly it is a form of anti vibration combined with the bumper spikes, the spikes on the left hand side have a big spring built into them.

Can anyone give me a better explanation of Jungle Spikes?

Well,

I dont know where the expression 'Jungle Spikes' comes from.

I was hoping you guys might.

If those chainsaws in the picture are yours than you are one stupid as shole.
Taping over the back handle safety device

Zjeeeezs, that's even worse than using a chainsaw one handed or kicking brush into the chipper with one foot or even better two feet.

Cityclimber,

Could you explain why you taped down the handle lock?
Whats the small loop for?

I like the massive pull start handle!

Yes, those are my saws in the picture. But instead of name calling why not ask why I taped off the safety? Better yet, if you look close you'll see a small loop at the back of the handle, Hmmmmmmmm. Whats that for? You'll never learn anything by shooting from the hip and name calling when you have no idea what you are talking about.

Sorry cityclimber, You are probably gonna come up with; "I use that saw on a portable mill". If so, My sincere excuse. If not , and I don't think it's a portable mill saw (short blade and and teeth that are shaped that way), I will stick to the shooting from the hip (for your own safety and for the educational consequences that are involved in posting a photo like that on a wide reaching medium like the Internet).

Arhhh

He's one of those modded saw racing guys, from what I can tell that dont have any rules.

Footage from most comps reveals no PPE and near on anything goes as far as saws ... did you notice NO CHAINBRAKE also, saw racers are expendable didn't you know that.

Ha ha, No I didn't but thanks to you Ekka I do now.
Rules and regulations change at those comps would stop them from being an endangered species.

Cityclimber,

Whats that all about?

Why are you deleting all you posts in this thread?

I dont understand, please explain.

You seem like a good guy who wanted to learn a little about the saws he runs. But the other trolls ruined it for you.

If I was walking down the street I would not stop to talk to A@@ holes so why would i do it online.

Ken,

In the first place, let me make my excuse to you.

In the 'tree climbing business' all work and material is subjected to very harsh rules. That's so in the US, but even more in Europa (where I come from).
So If we see an in this fashion modded chainsaw it's a big no go.

In the 'tree climbers spare time' some of us do some serious competition climbing. And also there we have to stick to a serious booklet with rules and regulations. All our gear has to be prepped in a fashion as if we are 'getting to work'.

There is only one part of our equipment that doesn't meet the 'getting to work like' standard. That's our handsaw. The teeth have to be removed or have to be taped so you can't hurt either the tree, your material or yourself.

So, if you look at the photo from our perspective, how would you react to a taped safety issue.

I think it's a pity that you deleted your post's over a discussion about safety that in our eyes is completely legitimate. And I think it's a pity that you call us trolls/as sholes after pointing out a serious LIFE threatening piece of tape.

Are there NO safety standards that you have to comply to when competing in the 'speed sawing comps'?

I think Erik would last at least 6 minutes because of his used PPE. That's one minute more you need on him to cut his legs from under him while he's wearing protective sawpants instead of the cotton jeans as the man in the Pacific Northwest are wearing.

Why is it, that whenever we're talking about the use of safety means that are available, that we are pictured as sissy's
Well let us be the sissy's, but we can probably tell our grandchildren about the 'big boys' using no PPE that passed away along the road.
