June 2008 Indiana storms

Started last week with a tornado that demolished 2.5 miles of line. Only 8 poles were standing after the carnage. Had some other outages along with that on some of the ridges from high winds. Round 2 brought plenty of rain, some places got over 10" in a 24 hr period. Flooding, mudslides, washouts and uprooting trees everywhere. We have 33,000 customers on th esystem we had at one time 5,500 of those out. Some roads were impassable and made restoration almost impossible. Here are some pics from my week.

Very nasty stuff there, I-65 was even closed for a bit. Indiana is lucky to have a pro like yourself there to help in the recovery process. So Many people affected by bad weather this year...crazy. I really feel bad for the farmers who lost so much of their investment. Heck, I feel sorry for anyone affected...
great pics. Be careful.

Thanks Roger, it was and still is a mess. Had crews out this morning as well. Had a voluntary evacuation this morning, the army corps of engineers deemed a dam unsafe. I slept through it though. LOL

Some double time too, but Uncle Bush will get his paws on most of that though.

And with Storm work, we do not clean up the debris. Drop and leave lay only.

We did stay safe through the storm, each and every morning we had a short safety meeting to calm the crews down a bit. They usually get in a mode of rushing which leads to accidents. I would rather them take their time and be able to go home at night to their families.

Yeah, we do the same. I just meant that it looks like a lot of work to be done cleaning trees off the wires. I Love storm work. Here the local Utility feeds us Breakfast and Dinner, and after the first 9 hours we are on OT for the duration as long as we stay on 17/7 rotations.
