Joining Ropes

Edk, here. Asymmetrical nature rolls the knot away from the tree part over which the rope is being pulled, so it can pull smoother in some situations.
 
I like the Zepplin Bend. The Shake-hands Bend is also a good one, but is easy to tie incorrectly if you don't know what you are doing. Avoid the Double Fisherman Bend and Flemmish Bend - they are difficult to untie after being loaded.
