Jeans + Spurs = Pain. Help?

I'm using climb right aluminum climbing Spurs with the ultra light pads. After a while I'm always fighting my jeans because it get so painful.. Any thoughts? Is there a special type of pants that will prevent this? Any little tricks people use?

I appreciate your help. Climb safe.

I HATE the ultra light pads. Two of my climbers have had them and they are very uncomfortable imo. They both have the Weaver wraps now and love them.

I hate the ultra lite pads from Climb Rite. They raised blisters on my shins after only 2 hours on them. Bstdes that the shanks were way too short or me. Got rid of them in a hurry.

I personally hate doing tree work in jeans. HATE it! Heavy, hot, seams are kinda thick (smashed between your climber pads and your leg). I always wear Dickies, Cintas, Dockers, BDUs or whatever other brand of trousers Goodwill is selling for $4/pair. Lighter, breathe much better, dry out faster when they get soaked (from sweat or rain), less painful under climber pads and for that price, when they tear, pitch 'em and grab the next pair!

X2 on the dickies!

At first I stitched a rectangular piece of old carpet to the interior of the pads. I've read of someone using shin guards for extra padding--the kind that soccer players wear. I think my legs eventually adapted. The ultra light pads by themselves are perfectly comfortable to me now.

I just find jeans uncomfortable with Spurs now. The thick seams dig in. I'm using Bashlins with big buck pads at the moment. I wear the cintas pant that work supplies also.

First off, make sure your spurs are adjusted correctly for your height. I had to climb for years ( ok I was a cheap bitch) with Buckingham T-pads....T pads goddamnit! When I had those, I would put soccer shin guards under them ( the kind that you slide in your sock). Now I have the Big buck quick wraps. OMG I could stand on them all day. I wish I hadn't been such a cheap bitch ( ok I'm still a cheap bitch-otherwise I'd have Geckos or KKs)

Man, I honestly don't get what all the hype is on geckos. A friend of mine climbs in them, and I've had the displeasure of climbing in them myself a few times. Awful. For me, anyways. Very uncomfortable.

I'm on bashlins with the weaver velcro wraps. I can climb hard for long periods and I love them. I used to have the super t pads on them and they were good to. I like how light that combo is. They would hardly ever bother me. My longest stretch in those was 10 hrs. That's one of the times it got a little soar. The last time I got sore was after the dead of last winter. I hadn't climbed for a while, and got the calf marks. That's when I upgraded. Super pleased now.:D

When I first got the Climb Rights, I couldn't get more than a few feet up the tree with those ultralight pads. They dug into the front of my shins so bad they left deep grooves in my legs. Switched to the Super Climber pads and those were comfy. But... the Climb Rights aren't all that light, the shanks are a bit short, and I ain't gettin' any younger. I switched to the Gecko Carbon Fiber climbers. For me, they are super comfy right out of the box. Sizing them is real important, though. You want the top of the pads up onto the tibial tuberosity (the thick flare of your shin bone, under the kneecap) where the bone is very heavy and thick. It's a bad idea to have the forces applied down lower on the tibia where it is really quite small in diameter and prone to hairline fractures. Anyway, sized accordingly, they are stupid comfy and a pair of them only weighs slightly more than one of the Climb Rights.

The Gecko CF climbers are the only ones I've ever owned that I didn't need extra padding in them. I'm careful not to walk on concrete or gravel with them on, because I really don't think the stirrups would hold up to that for long. With the velcro upper straps that come with them, and add-on velcro lower straps, they go on and off so fast and easy I can actually have the pair with pole gaffs on them sent up and change them in the tree.

I've been playing with the Euro gaffs a bit, with mixed results. Taking them off and putting the tree gaffs back on tonight, because they aren't working too great on the thick-barked Siberian Elm weeds I'm killing this week.

I walk on kiwis on concrete...I have had CF distels...they are great too but a bit more fragile...kk's are tough as fuck...and fit like a condom ....nice
