It happened

Jesse,

I will take this one on. You WILL see a class on this! You guys are too valuable to use. No lives should be lost.

This is the response I got regaurding putting together ideas for some formal training. It is such a great day!

I think she meant "too valuble to lose" but yes some of us are to valuble to use too

just curious, why did they have a crane at all?

When your only tool is a crane... everything looks like a pick!

We have a tree service here that has a couple of BIG cranes and they use them on easy front yard jobs. Just faster I guess.

Ok so I talked with some people at the AZ tree council that could potentialy put together a crane/ tree work class. I dont have a clue who would talk at this thing. Hey Norm, Phoenix is really nice this time of year. Anyone know of a training team such as NATS but in the Southwest? Lets do this thing!

I'd love to do it.

Its always tough to tell from pictures exactly what is going on, And it really looks like any decent climber could have had that tree on the ground as fast or maybe faster than it took to set that crane up etc... seems like ther is more to the story... a lot more... makes no sense .. and the set up of the crane... weird...

Most large hydros will carry a step ladder for set up. To assume it was used to make a cut is just that. An assumption. I like how all the CSI's here (arm chair quarterbacks) can make all sorts of depictions of what happened or how.

Truth is, unless you were there, you have no idea.

Faster easier and safer.

You can possibly do many more in a day due to less fatigue.
If you own a crane why not use it. Of course it shouldnt be a cruch either.

If you can take a tree down with a crane with 1 or 2 cuts vs many cuts you reduce the exposure to chainsaw injury.Back injury. and many others.

Well usually its safer, but when you try to take down a tree that size with one cut it best not to have a crane anywhere nearby.

Agreed you sitll need to know what you are doing
