Bought one of these recently and loved it until the first limb's tips hit the ground. The branch ran smoothly and beautifully through the air from the nice bit of aloft friction provided by the device. Once the limb was partly on the ground, quite a bit of pulling/struggling was required by the ground personnel to coerce it the rest of the way to the ground as a result of the friction aloft. Every video I can find shows the limb perfectly flying through the air, and fades away before the annoying experience that I have described. I think a better rope could be paired with it to help aid in this issue. Anyone using this device with great success? Rope recommendations from someone who owns one?

What diameter rope? My experience was under 12mm helps. I was using a retired hank of yale poison ivy with it

Different ropes absolutely behave differently with them. I use 12-strand ropes for lower friction, 16-strand ropes for higher friction.

It helps to attach two or three limbs to it before you begin lowering, if you're cutting lightweight pieces.

If you keep it close to the climber, he/she can pull down on the load side to lower it after the tip hits the ground.

I quite often attach an Omni-Block pulley for the main and use the RnW as a redirect, close to where I'm cutting, and just move it around with me in the tree. I will also attach a 3/8" tag line (about 25' long) to the load end of the rigging line if I have a groundie.

Thanks for input y'all. Used half inch 16 strand. I'll tone it down to 11 mil 12 strand and see how she goes. Been on a big natural crotch kick the last few years really only been setting a block on softwood trees just to keep sap off the rope (as much as possible anyway) or for negative rigging. I'll try with tagline/mid tie. Whole point is to make it easier. Struggling/pulling the branches to the ground wasn't feeling very easy the first time, but we'll play with it a bit. Cheers

I've recently used 3/8 stable braid with good success. I was actually worried it wouldn't create enough friction but I was happy with what I could still handle
