Isa Membership Problems Enough is Enough

As a 3rd generation tree expert. My family started back in 1952, and myself starting at knee high in 1981! I have been a ISA certified arborist since 2009. I just found out my Arborist Cert. was deactivated last April. Without any letter or email!!! Reason Due to lack of payment which was sent in. With over 30 CEU's and a great history. I even provided proof showing payment. They reply it has to go to a appeal board in March 2018! OR PAY THEM ANOTHER $295 AND RETAKE TEST. Even with my proof! They stated i would have to wait months for board to review. SMH enough is enough. I can't help but to feel like they are all about the money!!! If you figure all the money I paid to get all CEU’s. All GONE! Money to get to ISA Shows and classes! GONE!
The funny thing is they got my $135 professional memebership fee and $25 chapter fee. But never got my re-cert. fee. Now I have to wait 4 months for board to review or retake test. Smh
Membership and being apart of something has officially gone out the window!
Has anybody else experience this or similar? Lets talk!

ISA Update!
So I called ISA this morning requesting a letter why my Certified certificate was terminated. I need to have proof I was terminated not from lack of knowledge or CEU, but for $120 payment. Which I need to present to a township board.

For over a year I was under the assumption I was a certified arborist not knowing it was terminated. This was embarrassing and humiliating to be called out in a board meeting.

Running a company sometimes gets hectic and I don’t have extra time to see little details with all 15 of certifications we need a New Jersey. I’m hoping I get it some kind of resolve or reinstatement of my certificate of being certified arborist. ISA needs to work on a process to help members know that they are not certified when they renew their membership the following season perhaps. Something!

I understand revoking a certification due to lack of CEU or miss behavior. This was an oversight on either parties. I have seen this many times when clients sent us payments and we missed placed it or did not deposit it.
ISA needs to re-address this policy and change it. I hope it starts with me!
Being a veteran I learned a long time ago in the military that you don’t handle things in a certain fashion that hurts the outcome of a mission.

How do you think ISA should handle this???

I agree that ISA should have no problem issuing you a letter explaining why you're no longer certified.

I also agree that if you present to them evidence of a $120 transaction between you and them they need to figure out where that $120 went.

Once those two pieces are brought together I would expect immediate reinstatement. If they are not able to immediately reinstate I would hope they could issue you a letter stating that your certification status is in contention. Hopefully that letter and a further explanation from you will keep you in good graces with the township for the short-term.

You would think they would want to do everything they can to issue reminders before certification expires. It would also make a lot of sense if they charged a little bit extra maybe $50 for people paying late as long as everything else was in order in a timely manner. Other organizations I am a part of send many reminders that membership dues are coming up. It doesn't seem like a difficult thing. Perhaps a workable model would be that the certification fee is bumped to $125 with a $5 discount if you renew early. The extra $5 could be used to pay for the additional mailings needed for reminders.

Also they need to alert members that they certification is voided more often. THEY TOLD ME THEY SENT SERVAL EMAILS. As of right now! Thats seems to be a lie. I WANT THEM TO SHOW ME PROOF OF EMAILS SENT. This my argument right now! The LIES. Thank goodness for recorded office lines. The girl told them several email up to and after it was revoke.

Anyhow I just need now this will stop happening to members. Just not right. I spent thousands of dollars to obtain my CEU's which i had plenty to re cert. Now i loose those and have to pay $395 more and take a test???

I sent you a PM with my phone number please shoot me a text and I will get you a contact number direct line of someone who can help. I️ went through a similar situation.

It's like dealing with Verizon or another super large entity on the phone. If it makes a difference tho the TCIA is much much better to deal with compared to the ISA :)

After 18 years I dropped my Certified Arborist and ISA membership.

That was 2009.

Doing just fine without them.

As for the seemingly missing money.

Wonder if they have embezzlement going on.

I was an ISA cert arb and a Maryland registered tree expert back in the 90s . I have a VERY low threshold for BS like this so I didn't keep them up. In my market there is no need. The Isa should help it's members not hurt them imo

Alright. I'll start a new professional organization.

The CTF (don't ask) Allstars.

No rules. No dues. But...I'll be something of a benevolent dictator.

Who's in?

That has already been started...
(not sure about the benevolent dictator thing though....I might have a guess as to who that is and he isn't in central OH.)

Have you talked to the NJISA? They should be able to advocate on your behalf?
