ISA Arb Certification - Fixing to Make a Decision

...
Then the Code Of Ethics fiasco (IIRC, CAs were mandatory reporters of violations by others CAs).

...
When was that? First I've heard of it. Everything I hear is that ISA won't do squat to enforce standards or ethics.

There was a circumstance here where a public employee (ISA Certified Arborist and Municipal Specialist) reported a violation when a city's trees were topped by an ISA CA. This wasn't a competitor reporting another company, this was a public official upset about the poor practice.

ISA said they couldn't do anything because no proof who did the work. They were provided with a copy of the contract and invoice. Still nothing.

Sounds about right. Also the only solid thing they do have is improper use of the logo.
But that is mostly claiming to be certified while not

I dont think they even do much about that around here. We have had a guy advertise for years in his TV commercial that he's a certified arborist even though he isnt. Have never taken the test and isnt listed in the ISA's list of arbs. Last I heard years ago they sent him a letter telling him not to do that. The commercials are still airing

We have some of that around here. Whenever I used see the CA logo, I would go look them up just out of curiosity. I've run across several that weren't listed on the official roster, and only one of them has since gotten on the roster. Maybe he was originally certified, let it lapse, and then finally re-upped.

There's another one around here that has the "on staff" logo on his vehicles, which appears to be a total sham. I called them once to see who they had on staff, and the person they said they use never actually showed up on site at two different jobs in my neighborhood. The customers were told that the guy who showed up to do the bids was a CA. But I called the actual CA and asked if he was on staff with the company and he said that he works with them every once in while when they have something that requires a CA like a neighbor dispute over a damaged tree and the like, but he does not do normal day to day bids. At least the CA was honest.

And application to test was submitted a couple of days ago. The only issues [so far] were that I still had to submit the Employer Verification Form even being self employed. I kept getting an error when I hit "submit" until I finally figured that out. FYI, their customer service rep said that I only need to submit invoices, but the EVF is definitely required to get system to accept submission. Also, their customer service rep said that I did not need to submit references, but the packet said that you do, so I threw those in as well.

Taking the test tomorrow afternoon. There's a special beer that's been sitting in the fridge for several years waiting on the right occasion. I almost drank it a couple of times before, but abstained. Assuming I pass, should I drink it tomorrow night?

Go for it! Sounds like as good an occasion as any!

Hell yes, and be sure to announce and I’ll drink one with ya

Take your time to thoroughly read, understand each question, and potential answer. I remember many questions had answers that were all technically correct, but one is most correct. You can also flag questions to return to at a later time….. you may also find some answers later in the exam.

Done. Passed.

The first 10-15 questions had me worried. Not straightforward, answers all close. But then it got a lot better. I flagged 4 of the first 10 for review. My heart kind of sank there at first.

@Chris Schultz called it though. There were a bunch of questions with 3 tempting answers, so for many it came down to which one is the simplest. There were a few answers that were so stupidly simple that I almost felt like it was a trick.

Hey @evo just occurred to me that the first one is from up in your area. Wife brought it back from Bellingham in 2013. It's really good. Cheers!
