Is there a "Main"/generic Ropewalker configuration, or are there myriad?

Nope, only know SRT, wanna learn DdRT for work positioning but it's low on "training priorities"

Have just never really gotten the need for a Wrench, I think it's an artifact of me being so small (140lbs) using slick ropes because I've never had desire to get it, my hitch bites when I lean into it and when I pull upward it goes upward (once I began using hitches besides prussiks, and the micropulley, my hitch just slides up the rope even if I was just sitting-back on the hitch!)

I'd love to try one, maybe I'd change my mind then, but if its sole use is "hitch moves smoother" (and/or "helps precision on descent") then both of those are beyond 'not broken/don't fix' in my setup :p

Ok, just wanted to clarify what system you were climbing on.

I weigh less than you ;-) The problem with a hitch only in SRT (SRS as it's called lately) is that it seizes up on the rope for descent, doesn't matter what your weight is. Rope Wrench is the revolution that solved that problem, thx K. Bingham!

For sure ascending SRS with hitch only is very effective.

What you describe is the absolute requirent for hitch use SRS whether hitch only or paired with a Rope Wrench. It has to grab when you sit back and it has to slide when you move up from a sit back.

[I *did* stop putting my micropulley through the my hitch&'biner because it was occasionally getting the legs of the hitch out of place, now just have a tether running straight to the micropulley under the hitch, with the hand ascender pulling the knee unit....it is insane how much quicker it is if I can just go tens of feet without ever having to tend my hitch or sit-into it or anything just step, step step!! Am about to 'reconfigure' it for longer stride length, thought I'd set it that way before but didn't so stride length sucks maybe 10"?]

[[Biggest possible complaint for ascent, now, would simply be getting the damn foot-ascender to go up the rope instead of moving the rope around, I do knot my saw to the bottom of the line for weight but still, has been crossing my mind to put a lil bungee from its top to tend it, like have it tethered to my hitch & set under-tension so the second I start my 1st stride with right-foot-ascender, the bungee is already pulling it! Hate how terrible my ascender[Pantin] is on those first few steps, find myself looking down at ascender to visually 'slide it up the rope' with my foot, would be nice to simply step upwards :p ]]
A pantin should slide up even without a weight on the rope. I don't have any problems with mine going up from the first step.

How are you descending on SRS with only a hitch? Which hitch, rope, hitch cord are you using?

I think the OG Pantin is supposed to be better than the new one for that first step. The new one is meh. I bought a Ninja and its better, but I still have issues. My Zero pant leg sticks out even though I tuck it into the Ninja. I even have a sawpod to wrap it up a bit. When I wear my kiwi klimbers I have both the saw pod and the kk straps to hold down my pants leg. That is when I get the smoothest ascents. In part, it seems like the stirrup also stiffens up the response, favorably. Part of me wants to use a stirrup w/o spike for my next comp ascent, and maybe just throw on some neon tights too...

I've heard the same about the original pantin. I believe they have had 3 versions? Not real sure which I have but its not original as the catch that I just bought fit in it, its been mentioned that it doesn't fit in the first version.
