Is it time to replace the bungee on my Big Shot?

Definitely left a raised nick that chaffed the rubber- for folks who haven't used the compressed air trick, it's just crazy how much easier it is
It is amazing how much easier that trick is. I sliced rubber with razor knives for years before I learned about the air, and that has made life much easier by far!

I my opinion DON'T use a razor blade to remove. I did that and apparently left a small nick in the coating- new band failed there in a month or so.

Yah, I did that on a whim recently, and while I haven't put a new band on it, using a blade to remove the old one certainly left sharp raised edges I can imagine damaging a new one. I'm going to hit it with some fine sandpaper before I throw a new rubber on. Luckily I have extras.

For clarification, mine is home brew so its bare steel rod inside the latex. Still, my cracking is on the outside. I cut my tubing in the free air portion and roll it off the horn. I use slightly lighter tubing and re-use my pouch - home made leather stitched :)

Great for grips on mountain bikes and motorcycles too! I even put a mtb grip on the clutch handle of my chipper this way.

It's a big slingshot for getting lines in a tree so you can get your ropes.

Google Notch Big Shot or search for it at any arborist supplier.
This has been a good thread for me. The rubber condition on the BS is now added to the daily pre-work inspection checklist. Possibilty of a rubber band breaking on you while stretched is one reason I like using a pulley and trigger setup and have the thing on the ground when shooting (as above) rather than up in my lap or (worse) sighting down the pole from below the thing. Esp. the latter, if you use it that way, argues for having visor down for sure (probably a good idea anytime), even with safety glasses, I think. It'd be a big Owww. Stay safe out there. Cheers.
