is arbormaster hard to splice a tight eye in?

I believe what John was referring to is excalibur which was on my Christmas list. I honestly think 16 strand is easier than double braid. I agree with Nick though that the homemade wire fids work very well.

Nick,
The Fid is not long enough to do it in one pull (of cover tail) I have tried it in two passes and the cover tail comes off the wire fid at crossover.
To attach to the fid-
I have been just pushing the tip of the cover tail through the tight eye on the fid and folding it back on itself a little. Cover tail is held together by masking tape.
I need a better way to attach to the wire fid???

Try crushing the tip of your wire fid a bit tighter with a vice, so there is a bit more of a pinch. I'm using piano wire, although it's shorter and requires a couple of passes but I can deal.
Anchoring the cover tail is a great tip, I anchor bend it to my foot loop carabiner and it makes the crossover relatively painless. That and drawing the core crossover simultaneously as you pull through the cover.

Do you mean anchor the core tail?
