iPod in a tree...

Binkey

By the way.

to stay on topic, I put my ipod in my front pocket.

I run the cord up the front of my shirt. I then put the ear bud wires under my chin strap. (this hleps to keep them from getting snagged.)

the only issue I have is the cord getting pinched between my stomach and belt and pulling down on my ear buds.

I am going to design a bracket for my ipod that will mount to my helmet.

that way it will be self contained.

I like hearing my carabiners click shut, I like to hear the guys on the ground communicating with me, I like to hear the crack of the branch as I make my top cut with my handsaw.

I gotta say, I've liked the sound of biners closing for as long as I can remember. Wood breaking is a good sound too. I can hear those things fine with the particular Sony headset I'm talking about. Keeping the volume reasonably low makes a difference too... Booker T still sounds great at low volume... Jane's Addiction, not so.

It felt like I was isolating myself off from the real world and trying to escape from my work, I couldn't even hear the chipper going on and off. It definately does not help in the tree, maybe hedgetrimming would be better as it's so mundane.

Couldn't agree more here either, I have no interest in using an ipod while working with a crew... and I definitely used it on my last boxwood job... boxwoods... icky work!

I honestly felt less accountable to my crew because I had isolated myself away from them even though they were physically close on the job site. I think when you wear an Ipod in the tree you become a slave to technology and allow technology to dictate how you behave.

I'm not much of a technology slave. I'm a friggin' Luddite... but I like my music and I'll take it how I can get it.

Good luck with the memory thing!

Here's your elegant solution Blinky:

Go to a fabric store. By a yard of light-weight, breathable fabric.

Pick out a really cool pattern.

Cut a couple bandanas out of it.

Put the headset on, and over it put your bandana. Then put your helmet on.

you can drop the headset underneath the helmet harness along the back.

The bandana will keep it protected from the elements.

Give that a shot. Works like a charm.

Hope that answers your question.

If you want to go really elegant, go with silk or some imported fabric. There is some really nice stuff out there.

Even mosquito netting works. You can even fashion a flap in the front and cover up your face.

Now that's elegant! :)

If you got a huge head of hair, well, throw some Aloe Vera Gel in it and slick it back. Helps tighten it down a bit inside of a bandana and helmet. Last all day. Good for your hair too. Keep the dust out, and the moisture in. Put some on your face while your at it. Really saves the skin.

Now that pure elegance Blinky!
Post a photo after you hook it all up.
