iPhone Case

Finally upgraded to a new Iphone. What are you using for cases? I’d prefer something that isn’t too bulky, but want durability while climbing. Thanks!

OtterBox Defender, I have been using those cases on iPhones for at least 10 years, and have not managed to break a phone yet. I have dropped phones much too far, and they have always survived.

No case. I like to be able to slide my phone out easily to accept calls in the tree. I also buy mid range phones so I can drop them without regret.

I think Clogger can do a lot more to improve phone storage while climbing. Pfanner gladiators have a great cell phone pocket. Clogger Zeroes do not - @CloggerPete no offense, and they're the best pants for my locale.

I like the LifeProof case. Free no hassle replacements, when they wear out just pay shipping.
OtterBox used to do that, not sure if they still do, as I wear out a phone every two years. My current iPhone is a little over two years old and the call log shows 45 DAYS of talk time. I spend too much time on the phone…

I have heard a lot of good about LifeProof cases too, they just seem a little bulky for me, and I’ve been happy with the belt clip on the OtterBox, so I’ve just keep using them.

I’ll look into otters in the future maybe….. one question: How does the phone “wear out”? (Especially if the cases are so good?) I had an iPhone 4 in a LifeProof until I got my 11 a year or two after it came out. When I took it out of the case it looked brand new….. if it weren’t for the goddam software updates making my phone hardly work, I’d still be on the 4.

Otterbox Defender series. Along with that, buy a set of adhesive sheets of tempered glass to put over the Iphone touch screen. If you follow those steps, and replace the Otterbox every 18 months or so, your phone will still look brand new when you’re ready to upgrade it. I‘ve done this with my last 3 iPhones, and they all still look like the day I unboxed them.

I like Otter Box as well, but I went with the Commuter case instead of the Defender because the Commuter is a little slimmer. I like that it has a plug to close the charging port--I use to get saw dust in there a lot and I would have to clear it out with a paper clip or my phone wouldn't charge.

Just like a computer, in time the processor slows down a bit, it gets a bit glitchy, the battery wears down.

My work around is to stick to smaller profile iPhones like the SE series, although I’ve upgraded to the 13pro recently so that I can play with Lidar. I try to get a phone that’s small enough so that when the two layers of Otterbox Defender encase it, it will still fit comfortably in a pocket. I also stick to the defender series for my iPads as well, for the most part. My new 12.9 pro though, is encased in the Magic Keyboard, with the addition of an Urban Armor Gear piece, which affords additional protection to the back and sides, that isn't provided by the Magic Keyboard.
