Interview questions

[ QUOTE ]

You're right.

Late, unkempt or loaded are all failures in an interview. There are sometimes subtle notices shared in interviews that can be very telling. Then there are obvious issues.

If a person shows such poor judgment on interview day will it be a surprise that they exercise the same poor judgment again and cost someone a life or injury?

Probably true on average. However, one of the people I've had the pleasure to work with, and one of the few people who I would trust my life with, has probably shown up drunk to a few interviews. Maybe not the best employee, but a great co-worker. My advice to you, Family, is to wait to judge this guy, and see if there is anything to learn from him.

Not only is a addict going to increase risk on a job site, but he will most likely steal your stuff. And if he doesn't do the stealing, his thug friends will.

The guy needs professional help.

I'd hit the ground running if your boss hires that guy. But to keep on topic. Some of the better interview question I have had where open ended and almost like an essay based test. Start simple and work up to large and more complicated questions.

Depending on the position your hiring depends on the dress. A ground man looking for a few months or a year or two might show up in shorts and a t-shirt. A ground man looking for a career will show up in a nice collared shirt and tie with dress shoes on. Its not always true but its darn close.

I'd even start to ask some off bases questions to see if they would fit in with your company. Whats your favorite beer? What do you do on your free time? Stuff like that because finding a good worker is like finding a long lost family member.

The best interview questions are called Behaviour Based Questions. They are open-ended as many have mentioned here but are based on past performance. "Tell my about a time when...." and then plug in a scenario that will reveal something about his true experience working within a team, on his own, leadership, ability to take direction. accountability, learning and self-discipline.

I've always liked questions that relate to a job gone wrong and what they did. Dealing with the client, the boss, their co-workers. What did they learn from the situation, how would they handle it differently or would they?

As for coming to an interview drunk and high, while I feel for the guy it will come back to haunt the boss. a person is on their best behaviour at the interview. It's downhill from there. While blowing him off may be the kneejerk reaction it may be an opportunity to direct him to some form of rehab with the promise of reconsidering his application.

Hiring him in that condition only condones his addictions.

I agree, don't hire if they're late. I also have them take the application to fill out and set a time for them to return, usually 7am the next day to see if they can get their asses out of bed. Often they just don't come back. When they show on time then I give them more of my time.
