In search of a 26” sewn eye prusik…

Hello All,

Here’s a rookie question/request.

I’m in search of a 26” sewn eye prusik to use with my Rope fWrench.

Any recommendations?

The cord you choose will depend on what rope you use, and your personal preference. I like Armor Prus because it grabs very quickly, but it can be prone to locking up and not wanting to release.

Are you looking for 26” or 36”? Your title says one, your post says another…. 36” seems like it would be too long to me, and would not perform well with wrench setups I’ve used and/or seen. Are you looking for recommendations on which cord type people like? I like epicord, and Bailout (i think it’s called that… yellow with black/orange tracer)

Chris...sorry about that. It's 26". I'll check out your recommendations.
But like @Reach stated. The climb line it’s used on will influence/dictate the performance of hitch interface. For example the 9.3 epicord I use on my 11.7 24 strand wouldn’t grab on my friends 1/2” 16 strand arbormaster rope and he’s much lighter than me…. It takes some trial and error, which is a bummer because a hitch cord is around $30… adjusting the ratio of wraps to braids in the hitch you use can change things significantly. Some configurations will tend like a dream, but not hold worth a shit, some will grab really well, but be difficult to tend…. When you find the right balance though the wrench set up is A+.

Chris,

This is good to know. That actually has been my experience...$30 at at time!

I'll stay the course and continue exploring. I'll start with the recommendations on this communication string.

With gratitude,

If you're looking to save some money while you experiment, buy hitch cord by the foot and hand tie. This will allow you to dial in the length as well. When you find a combo and length that works, then order an eye to eye.

I’ve little experience with 26”. Armor prus 10mm and 9.3 epicord. Both worked well on tachyon ash, drenaline, and my prized marlow Vega.

As a newer climber, I found less sit back greatly increased my feeling of safety. 24” epi, hrc, and 8mm armor prus. Michoacán only on all. I tried other hitches but had mixed results.

Based on what I have seen about you online, you should probably buy and tie. The only reason I don’t is it adds stress to my workday dealing with the final leg, especially mid winter :b

2-3 chords for the price of one. Can get enough length for a sticht hitch. Try a million other hitches. The world is your oyster

But indeed, too many factors to say one definitively. Also there’s tons of threads with people talking about their combos. If it’s for a wrench read the rope wrench hitch/rope compendium er whatever it’s called

Thank you, Lupin_IV,

Sage advice to be sure. It sure is interesting about the particulars of what works, and what doesn't. I've read time and time again that lots of people deploy and enjoy the Michoacán. It never holds for me on my ropes. I have had good success with the Swabish, and most recently the VT or XT with 5 wraps has been the ticket. I'm hoping to tighten "the package" with the appropriate 26". Stay tuned!

@Zebco Kid it could help this discussion if you share what cordage you’ve tried, and on what ropes… I find it peculiar that the micho doesn’t stick for you(?). I don’t like to go off assumptions, so it’s hard to get too detailed here…. Have you tried an extra wrap/s?(this can throw off the balance of tend:bite)

Chris,

I'm at work. I'll gather those details when I go home. Thank you.

238BE0CB-FFA4-4184-ACF0-6F40DC204797.jpegTest the legs on the slipping hitch to see if both are loaded after weighting the hitch.

The cords from left to right, 9mm RIT, 8mm RIT, 6.8mm RIT 900, these use Twaron as an Aramid instead of the usual Technora, and BIllout, 100% Technora. The orange Michoacán is Tendon Timber from arbsession, the hitch is tied with a piece of cord and tied behind the rope to act as a tender also.

Good morning. For those still sticking with this thread, here's what I have in my bag right now:
Yale Blue Moon 11.7mm 100'
Teufelberger Tachyon Ash 11.5mm 200'
Blaze 11mm 26' (Double Ended Lanyard)

I find the Blue Moon to be slippery with most prusiks, gives me the most trouble, and demands additional wraps.
The Tachyon Ash work well with most.
However, as I do a lot of hiking and climbing, I prefer to carry my 100' Yale due to half the weight.
The Blaze is nice for a variety of prusiks too.

Rope Logic 10mm x 30" Eye to Eye
Rope Logic 10mm x 28" Eye to Eye
HRC 8MM X 28" Eye to Eye

Treestuff has Beeline 8mm in 24". That stuff is super sticky even when new in my experience on Scandere 11.7 and Static 11mm ropes tied into a Knut or Michoacan configuration.

I’m stumped. I haven’t used the beeline, but the HRC, and (that black/blue looks like epicord or armor prus) I’ve used on blue moon with a micho, without issue….. there is one caveat however: if I’ve been on my rope runner for awhile, when I switch to a hitch based system there is creep….. I think it’s from the aggressive flattening of the rope from mechanicals, and the time it takes the rope to “relax”…. hitches don’t wanna grab a flattened rope. That’s all I’ve got…. I hope you find something that works. Nobody should be climbing on a creeping hitch….

Chris...Thank you. Last night I went home and learned the Cornell. Perhaps that'll be the ticket for one and all.

Cheers.

I have Blue Moon and Tachyon as well. When you climb and initially tie your hitch, you'll need to weight it, break it, re-dress it, weight/break/dress, etc. a few times before you get close to approximating how it will behave while climbing. Be sure to do that and even adjust/re-tie as needed. I have had no problems with 10mm Beeline 28" tied in a Knut. I like the Michoacan with a shorter cord and through my own personal trial and error have landed on 25" as the right length for me. If you order from Arbsession they will sew a hitch cord to whatever length you want. Epicord 25" works awesome for me with Blue Moon/Michoacan.
