A raised easy drop in box works too. This makes setting the pin all of a second even when not 100% level side to side. I have seen guys screw with pulling a pin for a long time... all your free play is in the head forward/back. Rotator should stay constant and just makes for a quick hook and unhook IMO.

Go for it!

And while you’re at it, post some photos of your work and your storage.

Also a friendly suggestion - remove the hyperlink to your website, TreeBuzz is not the place to backlink your site to rank up on Google. It makes you look like a spammer. If you’re not sure how to remove the hyperlink, maybe @Tom Dunlap can help with that.

Steve, how bad does it suck having to install the bent jib section every time? Looks really heavy. Would it be worth the effort to keep the bent section on the grapple saw if there’s room to have a support to hold the jib section so it’s easily to get the jib slid over the bent section? We’re in the process of making storage for a 280 on my Effer 655, and trying to decide to just hang it off a manual or build a bent section.

My angled extension is in a storage slot on the deck with a handle on it. I just lift one end of it with the tip still resting in the slot and shoot the boom onto it. I never have to pick up the full weight of the extension. My extension is 6'. I couldn't even stow the boom with it on. If I could it would stick off the side of the truck about 4'. I would caution you on building your own unless you are that skilled of a welder and totally understand how to build it so it can withhold the forces you're applying. Mine went through a special heat treating process to ensure the steel and welds would be strong enough to maintain the 3300lb rating it has. Building something like that is way beyond my understanding. In the pic its the red object on the drivers side. Maybe you understand all the welding and strength factors but I dont.
