I found a dead cat in a tree

You've probably heard the expression about rescuing cats from trees; "you never see a cat skeleton in a tree." Well this morning we were taking apart a sugar maple and about 30 feet up was the carcass of a large cat wedged in a narrow crotch. Must have slipped into the crotch and couldn't free himself. We thought it was a coon but it was a mighty smelly cat. We sent him through the chipper, still wedged in the crotch. Gross pics to follow later.

The fat old cat most likely passed all nine lives by being long in the tooth .Never the less to find one that has expired in a tree is indeed a rarity .

Tree workers aren't the only ones that need to practice safe climbing techniques I guess.

Poor cat. Sent him through the chipper, that's nasty, but what else can you do with it?

Sent him through the chipper...That is awesome! True, though, what else could you do? Well, we would have at least taken the skull. We have quite the collection. We've chipped a myriad of critters live and dead, as I'm sure all of you have. Usually an unintentional inevitability.

I for one, look forward to the pictures. DO post them!!

Man, I remember Dad telling me one time. He was climbing a tree marked for removeal and one llimb was rotted out in the center. When he made his cut, e cut off a snakes head that had taken up home there. No pictures of it though.

I also second the pic request, just make sure it's an attachment.

Yes, send the pics. I like to keep the skulls, too! I like to think of a chipper as a entropy accelerator. I have sent many dead animals through.

I have heard of a few people finding dead cats in trees, and I have also rescued a soon-to-be dead cat in a tree. Cat was up there for 6 days in the heat of the summer and was too dehydrated and weak to move from the crotch it was lying in. I know that most cats will come down eventually, but sometimes they don't.

I'll show you my skulls if you show me yours!

Pruning palms is a messy, gory job. Many a snake, bat, rat, toadie frog has unwillingly sacrificed its essence for the sake of aesthetics.

We once found the severed front half of a frog crawling towards the severed back half of another frog. It would have been the coolest of Frankenfrog experiments

, but we had a hundred palms to go and couldn't take the time.

Entropy accelerator...Good one!

This is the first pic that was sent to me. Not very good but there may be more to come. On the other side of the branch is a smaller branch that formed a narrow crotch. Cat must have slipped in and couldn't get a purchase with it's front feet.

Dead cat pic 2

Here's another pic from climber 2. He either doesn't have any more good ones or he's rationing the pics to me so I won't start gagging again. DON'T LOOK IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE A DEAD CAT JAMMED IN A TREE. These pics are posted only in the interest of cat safety.

I think it's pretty amusing how most people who say you never find cat skeletons in trees... never climb trees.

Those same people always tell you about how they use to shoot mistletoe out of trees with a .22

Boring.
