husqies that won\'t idle hot.

Hey all, long time no see!

Got a couple new babies in the stable, a 460 rancher and a Lil 240. Neither one is a big fan of staying running once it's warm. Both are fairly new, the Lil one is probably about broken in. I have to start the little guy on half choke in the tree once it's been run, and it doesn't like to idle if I let it hang to fiddle with my rigging etc.

Tuned them both (low mix till it isn't smoking and runs smooth, high next till same at wfo, idle until it just runs without turning the chain). Made a little difference in hot starts, but not enough to keep from being annoying and slightly dangerous.

Ideas, chainsaw gurus?

I'm a sharpening Wizard, but tuning has always seemed a bit like a black art to me..

Good to be back!

Are the filters freezing up? remember they have that little plastic door under the filter cover that lets the warm engine air keep the filter from freezing? (or maybe its something more)

Re: husqies that won\'t idle hot.

Its pretty common to have to increase the idle after the break in period on small engines. That might be all you need if they are running fine other than idle. Also check the winter/summer setting. It can make a good bit of difference if it is really cold where you are.

Re: husqies that won\'t idle hot.

It has been pretty cold, but the 240 gave me trouble right off the shelf on a Pine removal at 7000 ft probably 75 degrees ambient temp.

After tuning things improved, but the last go round (hybrid cottonwood, 5300ft, 65 degrees out) I still had to re start the 240 on half choke. Not a big fan of a spinning chain on startup in the tree.

Is there a better guideline for tuning the low and high mixtures?

Re: husqies that won\'t idle hot.

It would be strange for two saws to start having carb trouble that soon and at the same time. Makes me think common denominator. You might have picked up some water in your fuel. If you haven't already, drain the tanks and open up the carbs to get all the fuel out.
