Husky\'s new 550 XP

Saw a new full page add of Husqvarna promoting one of their new saws. The 550xp. Sounds like it has some pretty cool features, Air injection, AutoTune ect... And a backwards running chain. Check it out Page 2 of tree services and 21 of arbor news or the attached picture.

What is that all about? I looked the saw up and saw no mention of anything of the sorts?

Nope, none of my research at Husky's website on the 550XP mentions anything about the saw's chain runnin backwards at all.

The reviews on it are not very impressive either.

This reminds me of that joke about Lars and Sven with their new chainsaw....

Re: Husky\'s new 550 XP

Let me tell you from first hand with 3/8 chain the 550 steps all over the 346 stock for stock or muffler modded. For that matter anything in the class.
The handling of the 550 is so nice, tight and balanced.

Heck even the 353 replacement the 545 I would take before a 346.

I have owned OE 346 NE 346 545 and 550

Re: Husky\'s new 550 XP

...reminds me of a big name tree care product supplier with an ad depicting a rope grab positioned backwards on a 'special' lanyard. Sometimes things get overlooked.

I'm sure it's a great saw.

Sorry, I thought it was a dead giveaway. Oh well. Its good to hear the good remarks about the saw (even though the chains on backwards). I was looking for an addition to my fleet. Have a 346xp and love it for crane work, sounds like this one might even be better. Thanks

Re: Husky\'s new 550 XP

Years ago when I worked for the city in PA we had a homelite 925 that would get so hot that the gas in the tank would start to boil. When that happened the saw would backfire through the carb and begin to run backwards through the full throttle range too.

Re: Husky\'s new 550 XP

Ah yes, the Homelite Super XL 925, I remember it well.

Note the super cool manual oil pump, with missing top, ouch!

I remember it well because ours got real hot, backfired and caught on fire!

Heckuva saw though before it burned!

Re: Husky\'s new 550 XP

Do you use it as a doorstop Pat? Was refering to Jomoco and my ages, not the saw. Although a working 925 would be close to qualifying as an antique. Where are the Pickers at when you need them?
