Hunt, fish, work, and live in Montana

Wade,
Long time no here from. How have you been ? I do think pretty highly of my crews because we are the leaders in this state, in regards to pay ,bennies, knowledge and abilities. I am not saying that your guys aren't good tree guys, just sayin that I know we are good.
Also Wade, I am currently putting together a basic tree climbing class that you and your guys are welcome to attend. The class will be include basic introduction to climbing gear and ropes, as well as techniques for ascending and decending, also proper tie in and friction hitches, etc... I hope to get this class going as soon as I get enough people that want to learn to CLIMB tree's.
I look forward to seeing at least one of your guys...It's up to you and I to raise the bar of excellence in our area.
Jeff has really began to meet the expectations of all the peaople moving into the Bozeman area that have come here with some higher expectations than that of the earlier standards set forth by the older Companies. Kudos to Jeff!

Now only if you could raise the income of the guys bustin' their asses for you. You could then maybe steal a guy or to from me. Hell you may even be able to steal me for the right price.....Doubt you can afford it!

P.S. Don't forget to email me about the class or call!

Love ya Buddy,
we should keep in touch a little better....

Hey Roger i read your post about the climbing class you are trying to put together. I was wondering if I could take in the class and maybe we could get together afterwards and talk about that formans postion in Billings. I hope I even could meet some of the guys working for you. I saw a crew working in Billings. i also have my spray license if that would help me out in any way.

Jason,
I am willing to initiate contact through the web, but I will not hire someone just from posts on a forum. I need a resume or at least a face to face before you are even considered for the job....I called the other day, but did not hear back from you. I will not call again! You call me..

As far as the class is concerned, I am attempting to get these classes set up so that ISA guys can get some CEU's for them. Considering that I am not willing use the RMC to help facilitate this due to their lack of involvment in this state, in regards to classes of this nature as well as competitions. So it will be a rough row to hoe for a bt here. Looking at a spring class right now, but if the logistics get together sooner then that will reflect the class date. This is why I have done no advertisement yet. I will keep everyone posted on the class.

Dear Sir:

My name is Evan and I am interested in what you have to offer. I am not a line clearance man but have 5 years in the biz with my own gear. I can rope climb, spike or work out from a bucket. I would be willing to start at the trimmer 1 phaze to get going. my number is 972 800 1833 I currently live in Dallas,Texas but my wife and I have been planning to relocate to Montana or Wyoming. so this would be a blessing.

Sincerely,

Evan

Evan,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner, but I am busy and there was a pretty long lull in the posting, so i didn't check it for a while. I need to let you know that I have a full boat right now and I believe that I have a pretty solid set of guys. I am not doing any hiring right now, but you never know what the future holds, so give me a call in a month or two. As you well know this industry seems to maintain a high turnover rate and positions open up randomly. My best contacts are freeclimber00@yahoo.com and 406-369-2838. Feel free to ring me anytime.....

Asplundh in Montana must me different than the one here in Virginia. The only certifications you get here is reading through the packet that the GF gives you and taking a test for each position then ya get a card. Which were not union either so that might have something to do with it.

The certification pack that you are speaking of may be the Line Clearance Certification Program ie; L.C.C.P. We also have that program here and that is the certification program that must be in place and continual to keep the company in compliance with Federal Law. This is the same law that states that if you are not Line Clearance Certified, you cannot work within 10 ft. of a Primary Wire.
FYI; to all the private guys out there that if you are working within that minimum approach distance you are breaking federal law.

Now as far as the other certifications go. We are Union and it is in our Contract that to get your Journeyman card you must obtain and maintain a State Herbacide License. Although not required, an ISA cert. will get you a bit extra on the paycheck. I am asking that all of my Foreman have both Certs., even though it is not required for the ISA Cert. I would like all of my Foreman to have them. I believe that it just keeps us in the forefront of the industry and maintains our value to our customers.

I am a safety trainer for Asplundh as well as a GF and a I teach everything from climbing, rigging, and felling and currently working to become a certifier for the ISA, so as to be able to keep my guys up on their CEU's. This may all just be a pipedream due the lack of cooperation from the RMC of the ISA. Nonetheless I will continue with my classes because they are good classes and EVERYBODY THAT ATTENDS THEM WALKS AWAY WITH SOMETHING THAT THEY HAVE LEARNED. That is my Goal! I have yet to open a class to the private sector, for I am in the process of perfecting the objectives. I have been out of the private loop for a bit and am not sure of the skill level that the private guys are working at. Hopefully they are keeping up? JOKES! I will have a class this year in Bozeman, MT., but am torn between whether to form this class to meet specific employer requests or to do a general knowledge class that is open invitation. Maybe somebody out there has a suggestion about that.

Open invitation?
Employer Specific requests?

Also if you private guys would like a class that would be directed at specific techniques, what would they be?

I would appreciate any input on the topic.

Hello, Everybody.

I thought it was about time to get this thread back on top and in your eyesite once again. I am looking to recruit a few good guys for the "09" year coming to quickly. You may think that the wages are just too low for your level of worth, but think of where your kids are getting their education and think about the life that you and they have. This really is the "The Last Best Place". With 09 coming on quicklyand a new contract in negotiations there will certainly be an improvement in wages and benefits. By looking at the thread record there has been a lot of intrest, but I have still only found one guy here that has came and stayed. If Montana is a place that you have ever thought about living in and would like to have a great secure job, that you can settle down to, then reply to the post or call me directly. I am still looking for the best of the best. I will pay you the top of the wage scale that you show your worth.

Props to Chris Rose from Fort Collins, CO. He has a secured job with me and he is a bad boy. I am greatful to have a guy like Chris and am looking for about 4 other guys with the skills and attitude he has.

Give this opportunity a second thought. Asplundh Montana, is becoming one of those places to that will be sought after. I will as well as all my boys Welcome you and give you the chance to live it up right along side them.

Well it has been a while since I have got on to the site.

All has been well here in Montana. We are still working even though this cold weather has has really put the hurtin' on the equipment, but at least the guys still have a solid workload that has kept them in good spirits. Now that the holidays have past we are looking at the heavy work load that we have ahead of us for 2009. Glad that the work has held out, with the economy in the shape it is in.

I am still looking for 1-2 people that have the right attitude and a high level of drive to work here. If there were anytime to apply it would be now.

We are under a new collective bargaining agreement that has boosted the wages 4% this year and 5% the next 2 years.

One other reason to think about getting an application in here is because of the economy. I am from the private sector and I have found over the last 23 yrs. is that when the economy tanks, one of the last things people think about is the health of their tree's. It makes sense too, trim tree's or make a home payment? This is the way it goes. Arborists are hit pretty hard. Maybe not first, but certainly at some point.

Asplundh was formed during the Great Depression. The Asplundh brothers found a nitch in the economy. They discovered that electricity was still in demand regardless of the economic state. With that, they realized that there was a need for the utility companies to provide reliable powerand were in need of some way to relieve the problem of tree's interfereing with the reliability of that power. So these brothers decided to give them what they needed. Utility tree trimmers. This company grew form that in the mist of the hardest economic crisis the nation has ever seen. Why? Infrastructure! There will always be a need to maintain our most basic components of civilized living standards. Power, Water, Sewer. These are the basics.

Asplundh has made a science of safe reliable utility arboriculture. We provide a service for the utility companies. One that is necessary. We are needed daily by the utilities to keep them in the confines of federal laws that govern their reliablity standards. This is why this Tree Company has lasted almost eighty years. How many Tree Companies do you know of that have that kind of history?

We work in infrastructure. That alone makes our jobs secure. I am not saying that our jobs aren't prone to some reduction of manpower, but there is no way the utilities can afford to get rid of us entirely.

You think about that for a while. Maybe your workload is looking a little meek right now. If it is, we are still running strong and still putting crews together everywhere.
Not just in Montana, but every where!

Like I said in the beginning of this post. I need 1-2 of the best guys that I can find. You can call me or email me a resume, anytime.

Regards,

Roger Evans
