HTP Static 10mm for DDRT.

Interesting. I thought SRT was changed to "stationary rope tech." as opposed to "singleRT". You know, in the non existent dictionary of tree climber terms. :coffee:

Just part of the confusion of poor labels... they’re not techniques though, they’re systems that a myriad of techniques can be applied to...

What's the scenario for a hydraulic or other "stuck crane" failure where a climber has to self-rescue off their anchor? A fair chance the climber may not be able to reach the ground on a doubled 120'. I can imagine re-pitching into a tree or converting to stationary rope and using the full length of the rope to reach the ground. I was trying to figure out why a climber would want a 200' line and figure that self-rescue on a doubled rope might be the reason. This is on my mind after participating in rescuing a bucket operator following a hydraulic failure a few days ago.

I agree with you as to always having a way to the ground in a few seconds. When cutting during a crane removal I tie in to the tree with a choke and therefore have to whole length of my 120' rope to bomb out if need be.
In the event of a hydraulic failure in the crane there are a few options. You can move your tie in to the tree. You could lanyard in to the tree and send up a butterfly to the friction saver on the crane. Or if there's no other options and you are just floating mid air you can hike back up to the ball, lanyard in to the hook and switch to an srt system.
Yes these aren't going to get you on the ground in a matter of a few seconds but if the crane is locked up your not really in that sort of situation that necessitates a speedy exit.

The way i see it is also from the standpoint that i may hit myself with the saw and may not have the time or the ability to reset my system. Having the ability to just pull down on the zigzag and hit the ground in seconds may make a huge difference.

Not very often that we are running saws while hanging off the ball, although it does happen every once in a while and those few instances I agree with you.

When did the acronyms get changed? MRS MRT and SRS are all new to me. I'm guessing MRT is "moving rope technique"?

MRS (Moving Rope System) SRS (Stationary Rope System) are the terms in the newest revision of the Z133 2017 which will be voted on just before TCI expo next month.

Interesting. Seems like splitting hairs to me, but what do I know!

tech·nique
tekˈnēk/
noun
  1. a way of carrying out a particular task, especially the execution or performance of an artistic work or a scientific procedure.

sys·tem
ˈsistəm/
noun
  1. a set of connected things or parts forming a complex whole, in particular.
  2. a set of principles or procedures according to which something is done; an organized scheme or method.

From what I can recall every single climber I have talked with calls their junk, for example- I got a VT with this pulley on this rope etc. etc, their system. Whereas the technique has always been either drt or srt... doubled rope/stationary rope.

Levi. Explain the setup for footlock then...

Seems to be a stationary, doubled rope. [emoji848]

Sure, but who does that anymore? haha, no, you got me there. So why not Moving Rope Technique?

Like, Im using the same technique as you (stationary) but with a different system, ie rope wrench vs rope runner.

Because a technique is how it’s applied to a system. Think of it with visual arts - Painting is the system, watercolor is a particular technique.

Your device on the rope can still be called your system. But a frog walker vs a rope walker is the technique.
