Interesting. I thought SRT was changed to "stationary rope tech." as opposed to "singleRT". You know, in the non existent dictionary of tree climber terms.![]()
I agree with you as to always having a way to the ground in a few seconds. When cutting during a crane removal I tie in to the tree with a choke and therefore have to whole length of my 120' rope to bomb out if need be.What's the scenario for a hydraulic or other "stuck crane" failure where a climber has to self-rescue off their anchor? A fair chance the climber may not be able to reach the ground on a doubled 120'. I can imagine re-pitching into a tree or converting to stationary rope and using the full length of the rope to reach the ground. I was trying to figure out why a climber would want a 200' line and figure that self-rescue on a doubled rope might be the reason. This is on my mind after participating in rescuing a bucket operator following a hydraulic failure a few days ago.

When did the acronyms get changed? MRS MRT and SRS are all new to me. I'm guessing MRT is "moving rope technique"?
Interesting. Seems like splitting hairs to me, but what do I know!
tech·nique
tekˈnēk/
noun
- a way of carrying out a particular task, especially the execution or performance of an artistic work or a scientific procedure.
sys·tem
ˈsistəm/
noun
- a set of connected things or parts forming a complex whole, in particular.
- a set of principles or procedures according to which something is done; an organized scheme or method.
From what I can recall every single climber I have talked with calls their junk, for example- I got a VT with this pulley on this rope etc. etc, their system. Whereas the technique has always been either drt or srt... doubled rope/stationary rope.
How what is applied to a system?
I think it could be interpreted either way, personally.
I will buy that, just like a moving rope vs a stationary is the technique.Your device on the rope can still be called your system. But a frog walker vs a rope walker is the technique.

As a former employer of mine was so fond of saying...
"You guys wanna shut up and get to work? We're supposed to cut the tree down, not talk the f**ker to death!"
Thats why we have senas. Do both at once.Yup. Less jawing... more sawing
