How much practice ?

New to splicing. Just wondering how many practice splices you have done before you would trust your work? I want to do a tight eye in a new 16 strand Yale rope I just bought. Should I buy some extra rope for practice or just dive in and give it a shot? Thanks for any and all advice in advance.

1st one. Follow the instructions and have no problems (like didn't bury all the way, hearing snapping noises, irregular diameter, lumps or broken needle in the rope). should be good to go.

Having said that, yes, practice is always a good thing. Allgear 16 strands are super easy to splice, IMHO.

I totally agree, I climbed on my very first eye splice, started out @ 10' then bounced a few times, went up to the 1st branch and set my prussik for a 3' fall, everything held. The eye got a little tighter but I still use that same rope. 300' SRT, mainline.
