How many hours before a new chipper becomes a demo?

All depends the first 10-20 hours they are tested out and abused hard by potential buyers ! What brand you looking at?

I figured it would be reasonable to expect a few hours on the machine. I guess one could factor the hours into negotiating price.

I’ve been looking at morbark.

Hours - whatever it takes the factory to check out that they did set up and build right and all is correct....one, two, whatever.

Paint wear from having chipped.....zero....otherwise they have demoed with that chipper.

So what do you think is reasonable to expect in terms of a discount on a machine that has 5 hours with very minor signs of use that the dealer acknowledges has been fired up and had a couple pieces put through it?

List price new of 56k.

Not much. If any. 5 hours isn't bad.

I think our last one had 2.5 hrs and there was zero discount.

If trading up to same horsepower you'll be going tier 4 big $$

I️ put that order on hold for now, I️ wanna demo that 15xp when I️ get back from
My trips to see if I️ wanna go gas or diesel, bandit can still get tier 3’s for a while but the cost of them even compared to 2 years ago has inflated a lot !

@deevo only one feed wheel on that xp ..... less pulling power. And I'd assume less engine power.
You may want to skip it and stick with the R model. Especially with the operation you have going.
I don't think that the xp would keep up with your crane and mini.
Just my 2 cents ....

They have 2, I️ demo’d a diesel last year and one the year before that.
I’m going to demo it anyways not committed to buying. Who knows I️ might end up waiting and buying an 18” chipper. Then of course I’ll need a larger capacity chip truck !

Had lots of power I already had it. Wasn't speced right in my opinion, it should of had a 60 inch I feed table not the 50 ,we were putting 14 inch leaders 40+ft with no problem , still doesn't throw chips the way my 255's do but I'm no expert

m12r. 2017. Not sure on date.

I would skip the M12R. When buying last year I demoed 2 of them a 70+/- hp JD diesel and a 130 hp GM gas. Both had brand new knives and had just come out of the shop from their typical adjustments before putting them in the field. Neither could manage the last foot of wood on the 10-12” diameter stuff. The JD stalled 5 times in one day (short day on fir, hemlock and pine). The 130 went down twice in a day (average day chipping tulip poplar). The chipping action on them is far from smooth, due to their two knife, offset design on a small drum. If I remember right there is 4” of drum on the right and left sides that only sees knife contact once per revolution, and on a 14” drum that’s over 1/2 the drum that only sees one knife strike per rev. This I believe eats power because of the drum design.
Not even mentioning the bearing/shaft problems these chippers are known for (discussed extensively in other threads).

I bought a demo bandit 200xp a few years back. I think list price was around $37K and they knocked off $2000. The machine had 52 hours and was just serviced. I figured if anything major was going to happen it would have happened in those first 50 hours. Couldn't be happier with the machine and Id buy a demo again without hesitation.
