How is work going for you now?

Are you busy or slow at this time of year and when does business start to get busy?

I know my company is doing bad right now. I been off work for 5 days now and it sucks and I'm ready to get back to work.

This is the time things start to pick up depending on local weather and economics. We've been really fortunate to have been busy since the beginning of the year and looking forward to a great year.

What are you doing with your down time? Have you considered doing some cold calling or putting together a flyer to deliver around the neighbourhood? Sometimes you need to kickstart the work.

Door hangers can be a little pricey. I had 400 half sheet flyers mad for 14 bucks. When we arent busy we pass them out. When we finsih a job we pass them out after we are done. There is always something to do. We have been pretty stedy since fall with a few days of no work here and there.

Things keep it up then, and cant find another job, then you could always try for a municipal crew. Get more XP that way. It would be a while before you got a chance for bucket or climbing duties, but it would be 40 hours, maybe benefits, work either all year or unemployment in in the winter. This option would mean a decent job, and a chance to climb the ladder.

Not that I would want you to climb a ladder, I would not want too!

Hey Donald, it can be feast or famine, a strange business for sure, at times.

A good opportunity to read some books (tree work or other), practice your knots, develop your skills, read Treebuzz (spoken like true Buzzaholic). Make yourself a more marketable employee for your current job, or to work in with another crew part or full time.

You can offer to help with marketing if the boss is too busy taking care of maintenance, etc. Posting flyers in appropriate areas, such as local grocery stores, coffee shops, etc. A little work means a little money. Initiative and self-motivation are traits that employers love to see, whether he takes you up on the idea or not, your employer will see the willingness.

You can offer to help with any maintenance, truck washing, etc.

Keep your company's business cards in your wallet, and give them away to family and friends that own their own homes, and people that you talk to that seems like possible jobs. Hopefully, you might even get a small finder's fee if you drum up some good work. I always offer one if my employees bring some work in. Just try to screen who you give them to, so as not to waste your bosses time/ money if people want something for nothing.

We are starving with a feast laid out before us. Calls are coming in fairly quick, not huge numbers, but faster than I am able to keep up with them.

Usually the back log is in getting the work done. Me and the crew is knocking them out fast but now that I'm back in the lead climb position the back log is in getting to the estimates.

Hoping to turn that around this week.

work this year has been great for me. I have been straight out since early spring with storm damage AND NOW THE TYPICAL SPRING WORK IS COMING IN. It is a welcome shift from this last year, then it was week to week sometimes day to day. The door hangers work though I use 3000doorhangers.com they are great. Targeted mail works too make up some postcards (vistaprint.com)and send them to houses and/or neighborhoods you want to work for.

With the turbulent weather we've had around here, since early spring, the trees have seen a lot of storm damage.

This has been a blessing for us. I've hired one extra employee (groundie & climber in training). And as many know, I'm looking for a climber.

I did a P&L comparrision from last year and I'm up 20% in gross sales.

I can't complain.

I'm avoiding people looking for me to get one last chance at me doing it for them.

Dying sycamores, pines, cherry's, walnuts and oaks are replaced by hot-glue gun and cardboard-box recycling to pack the last vestiges of almost 30 years of here or close-by. Years back in younger pursuits, I generally left accumuli and condensed my property into a backpack or truck bed. This time it's a semi-truck and five vehicles one of which is pulling a boat which also is filled past the gunwhales. 28 mammilian souls - mostof which will be tranquilized stupid will also migrate, and their belongings and needs coming with as well - another truck/trailer I forgot about until just now.

There's some work in Oklahoma waiting for me but setting-up the farm just right is number one and that may take a year or more. I'm also in treatments for various disorders but that's a buzz I can deal with well.

It's good to hear you're moving and grooving OW.

I'm out to two weeks of sold work but have at least a week of nothing but bids to do. I'm not sure how I'm gonna work this.

Been VERY busy since the snow finally melted towards the end of Febuary. My boss has told people that he isn't interested in work their because we have so much work(several months backlog). We just started a 4 day job yesterday that was bid in the fall but with the 4 large snow storms and then cleaning up all the storm damage and stuff we are just getting to it. It's a good thing, last year, work didn't pick up until around this time.
