How does Coronavirus COVID-19 alter our workflow?

Look at our trajectory folks (black). The WORST in the developed world....We are officially fucked, and the next few months are gonna look like a horror movie. We will see our health care sytems utterly overwhelmed with nurses and doctors having to decide on the fly who lives and who dies....MAGA my ass.

Your basing this on cases. You base it on deaths, so far we are looking better.

With our travel society and type government type I would kinda expect high number of cases. But I would also expect a lower death rate due to our technology, resources and government type.

Well, if you base it on deaths you should also base it on recoveries. The US don't have many of either because this whole thing just started. My post wasn't really a jugement but more informative.

I have read several posts stating that soap & water kills / "disintegrates" Covid-19.
It does not. The soap surfactant simply allows the virus to be wash away.

I am not a medical person; but I am / try to be scientific.
Please be confident of your source before you post.

Greg, I read the article all the way through and cannot locate where it says that soap and water do not kill/disintegrate coronaviruses. I did locate where it says that the soap allows the virus to be washed away and I agree with that. As can be said in the general case, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. My understanding is that soap is good at disrupting lipid membranes such as those found in animal cells, and the bilayer of lipids in the membranes that enclose coronaviruses (which are "stolen" from the host cell membrane when the virus says "see ya!" to the host cell where it originates). I am not a virologist, so I can fully conceive that my understanding is bunked up, but I honestly need some help if I am going to accept that soap does not kill coronaviruses directly through disrupting the integrity of the coronavirus membrane.

Thank you.
You prompted me to read more.
It seems that I am partially incorrect.
Soap can kill some, but probably not all.

My original source was a TV interview w/ a doctor.
In retrospect, the doctor probably Overstated to make a point; or didn't actually know.

All good info. Thanks.

This is from the world health organization.
"Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands."

Alright so show of hands, those of you in a lockdown state, are you working? Full steam? Select jobs? And why?

I’m rationalizing, working pretty much as normal but taking precautions. If I shut down, I can’t pay health insurance. If I can’t pay health insurance my wife is fucked with her Lyme treatment, and we are really fucked if any of us get this damn virus.

Today took out 5 cedars to allow for a Apple orchard expansion. Dude is making a cider business. So I can read our gov’s guidelines and this is supporting a essential business in ag..

My interpretation is that if some aspects of your work allow you to operate as essential then you are allowed to continue operations in general. If you are to continue those aspects that are essential to public safety you need to be operating in general.

Our state is shut down and I feel the right thing to do is not work. You have to make the decision regarding what your needs are and what aftermath you are willing to live with. I know I couldn't live with myself if I was to contract it and give it to my pregnant wife, or to anyone else for that matter. I know it's easy to stay away from direct contact with people in this line of work, but just be honest with yourself through it all. Are you staying away from gas pumps? Not touching any parts of clients properties that there is potential for them to touch in the next 3 days? What are you doing for lunch? Maybe you are sweet for all of these but think about them.

Really look into the stimulus "deals" they have for people in your situation. Not calling you out by any means, I just want this to pass as quick as possible. I hope you guys are able to make it through without any major, irreversible burdens.

I've been staying home as much as possible, been working sporadically on various work on my own properties and for clients (mostly ag properties) that don't need to see me in person. They have their own work to deal with, like getting ready for planting, that also doesn't require much, if any, contact outside of their own families. This state doesn't have many active cases, but I figure it doesn't hurt to start getting used to the inevitable. They'll lock this one down, too, eventually.

School has been out for 2 weeks now

Home lockdown since tues 3-24 and we decided not to work besides for an absolute emergency

every morning I’ve took a drive around and spied on other local tree services and found some others are working

some ways it makes me mad but I’m not in their position

In 3 weeks I might be out also

hard to watch everything we’ve worked for go out the window

this SUCKS!!!!! hopefully this doesn’t last too long

Yesterday we had a job scheduled for the state removing a palm tree in a conservatory. I assumed it was cancelled as the palm tree was not at all hazardous or essential that we remove it at this time.. Just starting to grow through the glass. Anyway the state decided that it was hazardous and essential that it be removed on schedule and that we proceed using social distancing measures. So the state itself is stretching the definition of essential as is most everyone.
