Just had an interesting proposal from a local bread distributor. He's got a Quercus rubra that needs the normal deadwood pruning and he offered to barter my services for a freezer full of breads /forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thats a lot of "bread" for a 3 hour pruning job!

Anyhoo, just wondering what are some of the most interesting items people have wanted to barter with to get your services?

Three of us got our car windows tinted in exchange for treework, once. We also got a years membership to a health spa, but that was another job.

I did some clearance pruning of a large cottonwood off a workshop, for a mechanic who helped me build my trailer for my stump grinder. The mechanic was my groundsman for this exercise. A good exchange of trades !

I did a few real easy removals a couple years back for an 18' trailer. The same guy offered me an electric chain grinder if I did something else. Not really sure what else I have bartered for.

I snow plowed this old ladies driveway last winter , did her walks , the whole nine yards. She said she pay me when her monthly check came in , but she said if I want I can have this crate of Oranges. I took the oranges and told her to forget about the money. I was laughing all day.
I thought I got took, but when my wife got the crate , they were shipped from Florida , big juicy oranges , so I got a good deal there. We don't get oranges like that in Pa.

I once helped a friend who's neighbor needed help removing a large limb off their car. No problem. My friend said we would get paid nicely. Even better. I'm still waiting, 'bout 4 years now. good lesson.

A friend had a single axle trailer with four foot sides and a ramp that was full of pallets. He wanted the pallets cut of for firewood in exchange for the trailer. It took me twenty minutes cutting and two worn out chains to get the trailer. I used the trailer for close to 20 years. Then I traded the trailer for partial, about 60% of the cost of painting one side of my house. The best barter that I ever made.

Circa 1985, for a one hour add on removal, a customer paid me with four pounds of king crabmeat and a huge grocery bag full of crab legs. Easy $200 worth! Yummm was the word for months at dinner!!

I just barted recently for catering. i took down a dead 40' Crimson king (Acer?) in a front yard just limbed it out and chunked it down 40 minutes worth of work climbing. I also split the 10 16" chunks of wood for her fireplace. In exchange I am getting a ctaered party for my family and my fiance family to meet soon. 20 people!! Were having steak, chicken broccoli alfredo, roasted potatoes plus 5 SERVED i.e. waitstaff appetizers and full dessert including a chocolate fondue fountain!!!

I have also done pruning for my taxes

i traded a Valve job on a 460 ford motor for one of my flatbeds in exchange for a california fan palm removal..(full collar) no hauling.. traded use of my bosses bucket truck for my overtime saturday work
done lots of partial trades for deer meat, abalone , chiropractic, massage therapy, and other products, for going easy on them on the price... my favorite is taking 25% off for cash on a 3 man crews work..1600 a day ..pay the crew cash and clear just under a grand.. suckers..i like it keeps us on an informal human level..
i once had a client make me venisson stew and rolls for lunch..(i only asked where a good place to eat was)i was so happy i did some view pruning for free.. i noticed from her dining room that if i cleaned out the lower third of her oak she would see the river an hours work with 2 climbers and no clean up...i can almost taste it now...yum

Itraded a Removal for 10 shiatsu sessions at 1hr15 min each. I mentioned to her the thread on shoulder injuries and rolfing. last time i went in she worked extremely deep. the next day my shoulder pain was gone. it has stayed gone for weeks. That was definately worth the trade.

Our last job of the day was for a fellow who makes wine for a hobby. After a lot of cheese crackers and homemade wine I am at home. Of course there are trade offs, my wife is not talking to me and I have an invite back for next week. Oh shit who cares I had a good time.
