hooking trees

I've got a problem with a company I saw in the area hooking trees. They are not affiliated with any Arborist organization I know, but I really want to call him up and give an earfull. I know its against ANSI standards to hook trees, but ANSI isn't "the law"? What penalties can ANSI dish out in NJ for someone hooking trees?

I'm pissed off when I lose a bid to someone who hooks the crap out of a tree and then only prunes 1/2 of the tree!! That's another issue.

To make the situation more clear, I did not recieve bid specs for this job, I just watched them, but I hate the way they can "Black Eye" our industry.

What would you do, other than notify the customer about the below-than-acceptable arboriculture they paid for?

I have no problem calling the owner of the company, but I'm looking for more ammo in my belt.

Are the company's initials FTS? I worked with them for a week - spikes for everything. I was also told to take off my sissy strap when spiking up since it was faster. That's laughable considering that SAFETY FIRST is on the back of their work shirts. If this is the company you're referring to I can provide you with the ammo.

Sissy strap?

Hahahaha!!!

Moose, you need to come work for us before you get pinched. I've probably seen you a few times in Summit.

I've gotten into arguements with the salesguy about the practice also.

Contact me.

No, Franks Tree Service is not who I speak of.

Sounds as if you have some history with this guy, and now you want to tell the customer he got ripped off. You really think your going to stop this guy do ya, I dont like your approch, IMO your the wrong person for this job.

Trevor, do you have a local Arboretum that you can contact? If it's a big contract, an Arboretum official can contact the client and set up an appt to check out the work methods.
OSHA might be able to help with the "ascending without being secured" issue and any other safety violations.

Pictures would be nice posted here. I'm sure some of us would have comments. Somehow get the abused client the address of TreeBuzz.com and see how things unfold.

Rocks- of course he's the wrong person for that job. The boss is looking for someone who will "do" and not think about if it's the right way or wrong way.

Actually, it's the boss who is the wrong person for the job. Without the TreeDr's mentality, little progress would be made.

Thanks for the input guys, good and bad.

Rocks, why would I be the wrong person for the job? Because I am confrontational and have a bad temper? Just curious.

Yes, reading your post your pissed about your bid specs. And ya did say you had a problem with this guy. We all want to do just what you said at one time or another, we have to represent this industry in a positive way even if he isn`t Go see the property owner with some good info see what he has to say, may be a apraisal is in order. Have another talk with the tree guy about proper pruning, etc. You could be confrontational in a positive way.

Nick how many times have you gone after a hack and got nowhere? Makes ya mad dont it, but you keep your cool cuz your a professional arborist.
