Hooker stick

This is one of the tools we used at Katrina. We call it a "hooker stick"...got the idea from a WWII veteran of Burma...they used them to help scale steep jungle hillsides. You can buy commercial versions of it but this one is very cheap, strong (good for a layout pull along a limb), lightweight, disposable, easily replaceable.

Bamboo, curved re-rod, parachute shroud line.

I'll often hook it on a nearby limb for use later...only forget it once in awhile.

Hooking!!!

It can be nice just having a hooker hanging around for whenever you need...

snagging a throwball line, snagging a busted limb several feet out of reach, pulling up a lowered limb that got hung on one of those lower stubs that I should have cut flush, pulling or lowering a saw or gear from one roof level to another (did that a lot when working on roof tops at Katrina), dragging stuff from the front of the truck bed if you don't want to climb in..

and making Scouts or newbies hoot and holler when you tell one of them to get the hooker stick from the truck. /forum/images/graemlins/nono.gif

Mmmm, not for me. I use my handsaw for most of that stuff. ;^)

But it would be cool having a Company Hooker on the job!

Maybe a 'lil distracting...

I have a newer version that telescopes and has a hook plus a saw blade on the end. I call it a pole saw. /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I would work on getting down to maybe 5 or 10 minutes!

Is that a overhand knot holding onto that snap hook? I think it is. Weird to see someone with all that PPE, but just an overhand holding the snap hook.

Please tell me I'm not seeing that right.

You are one eagle-eyed saum bytch...nah, it is an anchor hitch with a whipped end. I guess seeing it from the side makes it look like that.

Great question, though...I am always glad to have a critical eye applied to things.

Now, put some Visine in those eyes and get some rest.

We have a hook attachment that fit our fibreglass poles which we use for line clearance, ideal for putting the other end of our ropes in other tress, saves descending then climbing next one.

Great idea...have not had to do that yet but will remember the trick.
